He's not sneezing this morning, but he's stopped eating and I haven't seen a poo from him in a couple days. This keeps happening and I don't know why. This is the third or fourth time now. He stops pooping (from what I can tell) and his appetite is also gone (understandable)... So, rehydration fluids and diluted apple juice, with a small touch of oil. He's on FV, so he shouldn't be having this problem, right? :dono I'm getting so frustrated and I feel so bad for the little guy. I just don't understand, he was eating his FV, and pooping the right color poops (all over my boyfriends shirt, I should add XD) AND, he drinks water on the side as well... So confused.

ghostie... we need to know your location ...and this needs to be a new thread...its the new threads that get the most attention ...cause they're deemed to be more urgent....

when was the last time he ate and how much?

are you stimulating him before/after every meal....

what is the dilution of fox valley to water? ....

example: 1 fox valley/ 1 water ....

is he on a heating pad ...half underneath the box? set on low?

what's his activity level like in the past couple of hours.....

as for his constipation ...we've had this happen with a red before and then the solution was to give watermelon ... but we'll need a rehabber ok before i'd suggest it for this squirrel.....

the rehydration fluids are only ever for 24 hours....

if he's drinking water on his own that's good....

you can syringe water/little bit of applejuice....

he keeps getting constipated???

how often do you feed him and how much ...also do you know how much he weighs?

He ate this morning, 1cc. My understanding was that he didn't need to be stimulated because he has been urinating and defecating on his own for the past couple of weeks (eyes open the entire time). I give him 1fv/1water. When I have the heating pad below half of his cage, on low, he gets restless and upset, and starts chewing the cage bars trying to get out, so I scrapped that (It's really warm in my room, that could be why?) His activity level? Oh my...how do I explain... He's like a little rocket.... soaring through my room. He's extremely hyper, always wants to be played with, always humping my stuffed animals... I can't get him to slow down at all. I was advised to give him watermelon, and I have been, a little everyday, he loves them, eats a bit, and stores the rest under my bed -___-''. He's peeing just fine.

Oh, and as I'm typing this, he just pooped all over my bedstand... a bunch of brown/cream colored poops.

I live in Maine.

Thank you so much. I read about the oil, said to only give a very very small amount, and only once. So, in an 8 ounce glass of diluted apple juice, there is maybe one drop of the oil, just to help ease his stool if needed.

You CAN give a drop or two of mineral oil - just shoot it in his mouth, BUT... I don't think he needs it. No poops are almost always from not enough chow and since the little spaz is more interested in playing than eating, there you go.

I gave Ghostie a couple things to try to talk him into eating and we shall see what happens. Happily, she is close enough to me that we could hook up if needed.:thumbsup

Tiny red rockets that riccochet around the room aren't sick...:rotfl

He definitely isn't sick. But he's turned into quite the picky eater. But, I got the tips from CritterMom, so I've got this, for now ;) lol, the little red rocket just experienced his first outdoor experience and bolted under my deck -__-''''

Ughhh, I don't know! I've tried everything. I warmed the food more than before, I've cooled it more than before, I dipped the syringe in syrup, than honey.... Even when he's completely calm, I can't get him to take a lick..he just moves his head or darts away from me...I'm getting him a cage where he can relax outside, on the cool grass, half in shade, half in the sun (with supervision), and maybe he'll eat then... I'm trying everything... He's just as hyper as before... When he jumps, sometimes he rolls, and he's always trying to play with me..so I play with him, with my hands, tickling his belly... He's tried humping my wrists/hands.... -__-''''' I love him to death... but i'm running out of ideas... although, I left a peach in my room and when i returned, he devoured a half-inch rounded hole in it...that's something, assuming he can have peaches...

He just ate 1cc... that's all... 1cc this morning, and 1cc a minute ago... I need to find a gooball recipe... maybe he'll eat that... Was just as hyper as always, until he decided to go nuh-night...which is fine, it's ten thirty here.

I'm just going to rub his armpit and kiss his head and side while he sleeps and tell him how much I love him ;) maybe he'll be a good boy in the morning and let me feed him.

How old is he? I am by no means an expert but have had several reds. IMO the reds seem to stop taking formula earlier than they other squirrels. I released a group of 4 reds earlier this summer and by about 9 weeks, they refused the syringe. I mixed FV powder in with yogurt, in a dish and they loved it. They were messy but at least they were still taking some formula.

Again, I am not an expert but they looked good. Is he eating any rodent blocks? Reds are very hyper...much more than grays and would rather play catch me if you can instead of eating.

Good luck!

I'm not sure how old he is... a couple people told me he was under five weeks... But I've had him for two weeks so far and I got him when he was eyes open... So, I'm not sure... I can post pictures, maybe someone experienced can give me a better idea... Although, when I first got him, my boyfriend gave him a handfull of seeds (not my idea, but I was frantically doing research online to figure out how to take care of him that I just wasn't paying attention) and he LOVED the seeds, you couldn't take him away from them... (him having a huge urge for solid food may give a better idea of his age) But that's what I did... I started him on Esbilac, until I found out that that was a BIG no no, and now he's on FV...he's just refusing food now... I even tried seeds, just to see...nothing... he tries to store them in the creases of my shorts, on my back, or in my hair... but that's all.

The picture is of over a week ago.. I don't have a current one, he's in his cage now.
