I was reading somewhere where it was recommended that dried watermelon seeds were ok but this person also said whole cherries were okay with the pits and I know pits are bad. Any thoughts?

Over all we do NOT allow fruits seeds as they contain cyanide in them and when eaten in a large amount they can cause stomach problems and even death in small animals...... so NO!! :nono

I have given dried pumpkin, cantelope, watermelon, and squash seeds with no problems to my flyer. I have only given the pumpkin seeds to my greys. Wish I could be more help.

I feed the same seeds, both fresh and dried, to all my squirrels. I do NOT feed any 'pit' type seeds, such as apple, cherry, peach, pear, etc. I buy huge amounts of pumpkins after Halloween (sometimes they just give them away), take the seeds and roast them lightly in the oven. Then I freeze them and feed all year, and they all love them.

Hmmmm, I think I am just going to play this one safe. If something happened to Bushy I would never forgive myself so we will stick to pumpkin and sesame seeds. I know that even apple seeds contain some cyanide and I am not going to chance it. Thanks for the input.

I don't give any seeds just to be on the safe side.....except green pepper seeds now and then Charley loves them :D

My squirrels outside love fresh cherries (when in season.) They love apple and pear cores, nectarines and peaches. They also love grapes (but prefer the more expensive cherries, thank you very much.) Of all the fruits I mentioned above, they dont eat the seeds. In fact, I just found a peach pit in a some leaves stuck in my flower bed. But these are wild squirrels.
It's a hoot watching them eat a cherry or grape-they quickly peel and discard the skin.
