Hey all. I have two new 4week old male easterns brought into me last night. I have hydrated them, give the one of them SQ fluids, and they are now perky and feeding like champs. I've noticed that one of them has minor open wounds all over his abdomen (no maggots or fleas) and I want to start him on antibiotics for the next 7-10days. I have a 15mL bottle of Clavamox (amoxicillin trihydrate/clavulanate potassium) 50mg/12.5mg per mL. Does anyone know what an appropriate dosage per weight would be? I'm finding conflicting answers by browsing the internet, and my Plumb's manual doesn't specify rodent dosages. Thanks for any help!

Baytril is a better antibiotic to use on young squirrels. Clavamox may cause bone growth problems as well as being rough on the tummy, etc. Injectable Baytril is used orally (tastes awful) mixed with juice or molasses.
Baytril(22.7mg) is dosed once a day @ 2.5-15 mg/kg.

25 gram baby=0.01 ml
50 gram=0.02 ml
75 gram=0.03ml
100 gram = 0.04ml

Baytril is always the treatment of choice for cat attack babies. If you are not able to get Baytril, the next best would be SMZ-TMP(Septra, Sulfatrim,Bactrim are all other names). We can help with dosing this drug also.

Wow, thanks so much for the advise. I have enrofloxacin and will start that with him tonight. I really appreciate the speedy response!
