My baby has a swollen toe, I first noticed it about 4 days ago. I thought it could have been just caught on something or it had been hurt from when I found him. What should I do? Is there anything I can do? He is about 3 weeks old and is healthy other wise. I am nervous this could actually be something minorly serious? I appricate any advice or actual medical knowlege of what this could be or how I could treat him. I have included a few pictures. It is the "club" looking toe before the pinky toe.

Here is the best PIC of the swollen toe............... Maybe a bite or a nail problem? - hard to say
I would suggest some Warm Compress & Neosporin atm (lets see what the others say)

I put a little antibiotic cream on it, however I am nervous what if he licks it? My Squirrels like to put there paws in there mouth somethimes and I dont want to hurt his stomach. I out a VERY thin layer just around the toe, I am hoping it will pass though the skin membranes and help with the swelling. It hasnt gone down but it isnt getting bigger. I am hoping this wont affect any other part of him. :(

The 1st squirrel I ever had "MAX" had a toe that was swollen (from a cage accident) and it took about three weeks for it to heal and I had to place Neosporin on it every day (x3 a day) and washed it occasionally ---but the good news it that it HEALED and never it never required a vet visit. :thumbsup :thumbsup

I really hope so, it makes me nervous. He seems completely fine, it doesnt seem to bother him at all. I have a ointment called bactraban its a antibiotic that was perscibed by a Dermatologist to me, is that okay? or is neosporin the appropriate ointment for a small animal? I am going to do it 3x a day as well I hope it gets better soon ! any other treatments you may consider?

Neosporin is okay BUT read the ingredients and avoid products with zinc. Some triple antibiotic ointments have zinc and some do not. Find one that doesn't.:thumbsup

http://www.medicinenet.com/mupirocin-topical_ointment/article.htm

that is the general discription of the medicine I have, I have put a SMALL bit on the toe 2x today and it does not seem to iritate him. Do you think this is ok? I am certainly okay with just going out and getting neosporin. However this has no zinc in it and is a good antibiotic. What do you think ?

:wave123 Hi Melody
I would try boosting there Immune system a little! :thumbsup3 I use Echinaces Extract, you can get it from GNC! (""Please don't use the Wal-Mart bran or generic."") GNC ECHINACEA EXTRACT is the only one that work for Squirrel Pox. ""I'm Not saying this baby has that!"" :nono BUT I would try boosting the immune system. GS1 Has a picture of the bottle. I just can't find it. :D It is 1 capsule to 1 gal of water. I would give drinks throughout the day.
It will not hurt any of them. :thumbsup5 You can use the rest on the outside critters, or if you have older Squirrels at home.
I am sure Their Immune System is stressed out bad. I know they are in good hands. :grouphug
I can't Waite to see them if 2 weeks or so. You will be unrecognizable! They are so cutie.:Love_Icon

PS
By the way. :thinking
Is their any swelling on the other toes, around the eyes, or the mouth and genital area? :dono
Watch for more swelling to appear.
If this happens let use know Quickly.
If you back up a little when taking the picture.
It will focus better.
