I have a boy and a girl - both a year and 4 months or so. They have a bedroom to themselves when it's too hot outside, or the 20x25 screened in Florida room (Porch) where they can run and jump and exercise well. Also they have a 4x4x7ft cage inside the FL room that I lock them in at night, a very large cage.

Anyway, Percy was acting strange yesterday and bit me for no reason. He bit down and wouldn't let go. I finally got him off and left him in the FL room. That early evening I see Princess who is fat and lazy most of the time was fritzed up and moving and let Percy do the humpty on or with her After he was done she kept bugging him and she never bugs him. She always tries to get away from him because he is always wanting to play and she just wants to sit and eat. But not yesterday.

Is it possible that she's in heat and this is why Percy is biting and she is chasing him instead of he chasing her? Do you think she'll get pregnant?

Thanks, Joanne in Jax

Are they nr? Yes, they can (and do) breed in captivity. Esp. with them both being over a year.

Yes, it does sound as though Mother Nature is taking its course here with these two Squirrels..... have you ever thought about releasing them so they can be WILD & FREE as they were intended? - or are they both NR (non-releasable) for some reason? And, YES --she will probably end up pregnant IF their activity continues..... IF she it not already pregnant, as it only takes once.

I was told they were NR because they are not afraid of people, dogs or cats. And a wild visits daily (A released previously squirrel of about 2 years ago) and Percy chases him off every time he visits. Poor released! I've put Percy outside a few times and he comes right back in. He investigates the patio and sometimes the grass around the patio but comes right back. He doesn't seem to want to be released! But I'm trying to do it slowly now. Princess (the girl) wants NOTHING to do with the outside world and doesn't care or hardly notice when a hawk or owl dives toward them in their cage or Florida room!
