MARVEN (NR) - Needs HELP with FUND RAISER / SURGERY!!

[Rhapsody]

As some of you already know I have a special needs squirrel Name Marven that is 4 month old and is a NR due to Malocclusion at two weeks old,
a Cleft Palate and Blindness or partial blindness in his right eyes...... :Love_Icon

I have chosen to keep Marven with My Family for as Long as the Dear Lord allows Marven to remain on this Earth with US and to make Life the best
we can for him and to give him the best quality of Life he can have.... a wonderful Vet Aunt Jackie has suggested to Me has suggested that
Marven have dental surgery to remove his four front teeth and to repair the cleft palate, if possible.

This surgery will cost 1,200 at least and I will need help with the pre-vet bill as well and I am asking the wonderful Squirrel Lovers of TSB for
HELP, SUPPORT and DONATION for Marven so HE may have this LIFE Saving Operation..... If Hearts be willing.

I will talk to Rhapsody later today if I see her on FB. I don't really know any details of when it is over. I usually just provide the stuff and the person running the raffle handles everything else. If you see a shirt on the Zazzle site that is not on the Cafe Press site let me know and I will make it through CP. I have been transferring stuff over slowly as I like their prices and merchandise better. I will probably help raffle stuff off until we reach the goal. I know there will be a nest box and a t-shirt. I haven't decided on what the other items will be. Perhaps a gift basket with some cage supplies a mug and a shirt. I haven't decided yet though.

Marvin is a great guy!
He is sweet and friendly, I haven't been bit yet!
I clip Marvins teeth every three weeks, I also helped with this decision, confirming how bad they are.
I was also involved with mpetys Tina's diagnosis...
these two sqs are still young and can adapt without incisors.
Many will disagree with extraction, but I have sqs without teeth, I also have sqs that have their teeth clipped and will forever, as they are too old now. I think extraction is a good idea...TigerRoni and Squarlet are perfect examples...Odontoma's:shakehead
The surgery for that is big big money and life threatening.
Any surgery is.
Extraction is not fast, and 4 teeth takes time...it is dangerous.
IMHO...odontomas scare the hell outta me.

Hey Mary, I don't think any toes were stepped on! Let me know if I can help you if you do decide to do a raffle or two. I think the cage stuff, branches and toys will go over very well! I, for one, am anxious to see the toys! I am planning on doing a raffle for Marven at some point. I will check with you before I do just so we keep these things coordinated!

Rhapsody, I will get with you soon on the details of the raffle. Another member has contacted me with some items to donate and I have the TSB calendar and am working on another nice item. So should be fun, exciting and hopefully, successful for Marven's sake.

I just posted a POLL asking folks to give me their opinion on the raffle format. I am still waiting on some items to come in that I have to order for the raffle.

Basically this upcoming raffle that will have 5 prizes (so far). They will vary in value and type. Pointy Tail has donated a pair of movie passes to an AMC movie theater, a $25 gift card for restaurants.com and has offered to let a winner choose from foto notecards, a mousepad or an address book with a photo on front and back covers! I will have a TSB calendar and what I call a baby starter kit. A new Sterlite container (with air holes drilled on sides and top filled with a brand new heating pad, a pound of Fox Valley 32/40 formula, a dozen syringes and nipples, a fleece blanket (donated by Pointy Tail) and some new fleece for the Sterlite container. I have some thoughts on some other items I may add to this container but it is a work in progress.

So, I can talk to you later after the funeral and by then, hopefully, I will know if we have more items added or not and we can set a date of when to start and end. I don't want to run this raffle while someone else is running one.

Ok, here is the picture of what is in the gift basket. Our Walmart was out of the hedgehog stuffy this week but Petco had one. I will check back next week to see if WalMart got anymore in. Although there is only one perch shown in the picture 2 come with the basket. The perches, pancake platforms and one tube comes with the hardware you need to hang them in the cage. The second tube is a spare because they are cardboard and disposable and will need to be changed out. You can get extra tubes at Staples, Office Max or Craft stores and just drill holes in them to make more.

All went well with Marven's follow up apt today (mouth & jaw) is healing well and Marven is scheduled
to have his 2nd and final surgery on December 1, 2011 @ 2:45 PM -- extraction of upper teeth.

Dr. Nick said we could go ahead and start solid foods again, but I think I will give Marven another week with his puree food since he is eating so well (the little chunky monkey),
then we will start out with some soft peeled apples and chopped mushrooms and see how well he does on the eating with the jaw and all...... slow and steady.

And...... in time we will introduce HIS FAVORITE food - Walnuts!! (chopped of course).

Sorry for the late notice everyone, but my computer is still down from a mean virus. But I wanted to stop in and let you all know that the surgery went well and that Marven is back home doing GREAT and adjusting as though nothing happened after the first 24 hours passed........ :Love_Icon :Love_Icon :Love_Icon

He is on Baytril and Metacam for 10 days 2x a day -- :thumbsup

For any one that may come up on this thread in the future and need some advice on what to feed a squirrel once its had his four front teeth removed... I want to post a couple of pics of Marven food (before & after) to show that I feed him regular food that he will eat --I just chop the food up finely so he can chew the food with his back molars.


Morning Food:
3-Snap Peas
1-Mini Carrot
1-Squirrel Block (HHB)
4-Blue Berries
2-Half Walnuts
1-Slice Broccoli
2-Hibiscus Buds
1-Full Mushroom
