Dear Sir/Madam,
I'd like to ask a question to the forum. We have a few squirrels that come and feed in our backyard. we give them seeds etc, basically general feed available anywhere.

Recently we noticed that one of the squirrels has developed a severe condition. We have taken pictures of it. It appears like she/he has developed many lumps, pretty big ones. We also think that he/she was injured a few weeks ago fighting with other squirrels. We have no idea what it is and what should be done but it will be utterly sad if we did not try to ask people who may know and help us help the squirrel.

Please see the attached photos as that's the best we can do to describe
the condition.

Please respond ASAP, the poor baby is in trouble and we may not have too long to act.

Thanks
Sourabh

From what I see in your pictures, those are not wounds or infections. Those are Bot fly pockets, the Bot fly eggs burrow into the skin and turn into larva. The larva will reach a certain size and drop out. The lesions will heal when empty. Nasty looking by not life threatening.
Do a search (in dark band at top) and look at the Bot fly information. :thankyou For wanting to help.:grouphug

Thank you all so much for taking time to address the concerns of a neophyte.

Is there anything we could do to make the squirrel feel better? for example some medicated food etc?

Once again, many many thanks for your kind help.

Those bots are in the last stage; the larvae should drop out very soon. Once they do, the squirrel will heal up fast.

Best thing you can do is provide food and water.

I know they look awful, but your little friend appears in pretty good shape. Most squirrels recover quickly and completely.

Yea, thoase are bot flies......yuk! We try hard not to intervine. We had two one season, but it was an extreme last resort. Th baby had two near her throat and could not swallow. The only other one had 7 or 8 and could barely walk. lots of food and water - will help him alot.
