Cuddles LOVES eating the flowers but now I'm told they're toxic (http://www.aspca.org/Pet-care/poison-control/Plants/sweet-pea.aspx)!

He's had bunches of them (like a small bouquet) this Sunday and two weeks ago. He's crazy for them :(. It just never occurred to me that Sweetpeas would be dangerous.

What I am reading is that the seeds in large quantities are toxic. When I see that I pass them by - especially since there are lots of other edible flowers. If you have access to unsprayed roses (don't use florist roses, there are more insecticides than rose in those!) they are tasty - the flower buds, the open blossoms, and the hips (seed pods). My neighbor has a large wild rose, which grows all over up here, and they probably wonder why it flowers so seldom (I have been known to take a flower bud or 2...ok, maybe a handful - big hands, well, a bowl was involved once..ok, maybe more than once...)
Anyhoo, P LOVES roses!

So...maybe okay - I always err on the side of caution.

This is what I have on Sweetpea Blossoms

Minor toxicity:
Ingestion may cause some minor symptoms such as rash, vomiting or diarrhea.
Ingestion of small amounts may not cause any symptoms at all.

.... so your little guy may be fine (and) may be one of the squirrels that have no
issues with sweetpea flowers what so ever.

RULE of THUMB: Watch what the Wild Animals in your area are EATING!! / this should be Safe for your Squirrel as well
