Hey all, have noticed my 6 month old boys eye looks a little red and maybe slightly swollen this evening. Infection? Allergies? Any ideas?? He is acting normal as ever.

I can't get a good enough picture of it. cleaned his eye this morning bc he had some trouble opening it when he woke up. wide open now but still red around it. Is there any where I can get some drops??

ck teeth...
if not teeth, I suggest a vet if it persists...eye infections can be serious and usually need Rx meds ....
If he will allow you to put a warm compress on, that would be ideal...
make sure it doesn't appear scratched...
make sure bedding is clean.
TSB has many smart members...hang on, someone will have experience with eye washes etc...
I have used erthromycin ophthalmic ointment per vet in the past...
and ophthalmic solution for flushes...
I think it depends on what is causing redness...
pics are hard to get but do help...
good luck...
I can share a sq vets name in the Loiusville area if needed.

redness around incisor gum area...punctures and redness in the roof of mouth
bad breath
the ointment will quickly heal any mild infections and rapidly heal any scratches...:thumbsup
sorry to be so brief, I type so slow...

You really should get to a vet if you can. Erythromicin ointment is good for bacterial infections, but you could be dealing with a fungal infection (which I just dealt with). If it's fungal, you'll need something like fluconozale ointment. You want to be sure that you're treating the right infection, IMO. Also, if there's any scratch on the eye, that will need a different approach. :peace

Okay RJ's eye is looking infected again, ugh, I have started the erythromycin ointment again over the last 3 days with some improvement but not a lot. Its red around the eye but his actual eyeball looks okay. Any more suggestions?
