View Full Version : bump on head...
repost, after some threads disappeared...
My little guy has an odd bump on his head. It showed up a couple days after a dosage of Revolution, which DID clear up the mange on his ears.
However this bump is bothering me, almost feels like a big blister or boil. Not hard, kind of squishy. There is now a bit of flakiness on it and a red spot.
My good camera is now broke so I am forced to settle with camcorder pictures.

Possibilities? Advice? Info? Our local vet has ZERO desire to see him...
Hi! A rehabber should be here soon to help! In the meantime, is there a possibility it could be a bot fly warble? If so...don't mess with it! :) Look up in specific ailments and see if it looks similar. Hoping all is well! :grouphug

I would guess abcess as well. Probably due to his scratching at the mange.

Hi Rele!
I see you are from Iowa....I was just down there last week and noticed that you guys still have A LOT of standing water...especially around the Missouri River. The mosquitos have doubled what they normally are...so Im wondering if the bump could be Pox. Even places that normally don't see pox may be seeing it more and more with all the flooding.
When I lived in Iowa I was a waterfowl rehabber....I did my apprenticeship under a woman named Linda...who I know is still around and from when we last spoke....she was still taking in small mammals. If you would like I could call her and maybe get you two in touch with each other. She may know of a Vet that will see your little guy. She really knows her stuff...but I must warn you she is a crabby ole broad. (LOL)
I've had him inside my home for nearly 2 months now.
He is eating fine, tons of veggies, becoming a little more rambunctious as he ages.
It still is only the one bump, it doesn't seem to affect him at all, not even touching it.
I'll try and grab a couple better pictures...
UPDATE:
He got much worse, the little bump on his head doubled in size then got another bump even bigger right beside it... struggling for a vet we learn there actually is a second vet nearby and today, yes it has been too long already, we get there and they are soo delighted to see a squirrel, the nurses thought it was the greatest thing ever, plus being a black squirrel they all gathered around and pet him for what seemed like an eternity.
In the end he DID have an abscess, it was drained, he ended up doing a whole check-up on the little guy and best yet..... FREE OF CHARGE! It didn't cost a cent. AMAZING!
Some people amaze me, from one vet that refused to help him to another that loooooved to see him.
Now i just gotta order some Henry's blocks...
