so my black baby is at it again, just fine moments ago, playing with my Mrs. and next thing I know she points out the white around his eyes, last time he was sick with a "cold" and had this issue I gave him benadryl via the vets order but not sure what it is for sure, or what the cause is...

HELP!!

The white "tears" are usually a response to pain and/or stress. Can you give us some info - how old is he and what/how else is he acting?

Benadryl will take care of allergic reactions but if he is ill it won't help - only treats symptoms, had no antibiotics in it.

awww, that makes me sad, he isn't in pain, at all. He's very very playful, runs all around and is just plain goofy.

Stress? bummer. He was playing with my wife... sort of a tag-you're-it, game. he had preciously encountered a bell pepper for his first time a mere 5 minutes before the incident, but he carried it around, never did eat any of it.

According to a member that estimated his age by the first I pic I took of him the day we got him suggests he is now 13-14 weeks old.

Island Rehabber guessed 7-8 weeks at time of this pic.

How is he now? Are you still seeing the white stuff? I am wondering if maybe it was a reaction to te pepper? Bells don't have capsasin in them like the hot ones but perhaps it was an allergic reaction?

Are his eyes clear now?

Can you tell us about his diet? Pain can happen for many reasons. Some of them dangerous.

Nope, no probs now. Maybe he was stressed because the wife was winning at their games. LOL!

Here is something interesting - regarding guinea pigs but I bet it isn't just specific to them:

Scroll down to Eye Discharge. Absolutely facinating!

Wayne gets white fluid around his eye nearly everytime he is due for a tooth trim. Maybe have his teeth looked at?

I have noticed in all of my squirrels that when they clean themselves they discharge a milky liquid out of the tear ducts. Usually it gets wiped off when they clean themselves but sometimes they do not get it all. Unless the eye is puffy or looks irritated I would assume that it is just the tears that they discharge during cleaning. the milky liquid I discribed is about the consistency and color of milk.
