View Full Version : Can squirrels have snow peas?

Hubby accidently grabbed them instead of sugar snap peas (actually, they were labeled as snap peas, but are snow peas). So, anyone know? checked the ca/phos%, and they seem ok on there....but can they have them?

Sammy has lived thru that very same error on my part. He wasn't as happy because the peas were smaller...but he lived!:D

Of course they can eat snow peas but since you have opened this thread, I'd like to pose a question. Cocoa and especially Chip loved sugar snaps for about a year and a half. Lately they have no interest in them. I've tried different brands, different stores, farm bought....nothing! Does anyone know if there's something overall being done to sugar snaps that makes them less appealing to squirrels? Or has anyone else's squirrels suddenly rejected their beloved sugar snaps?

Personally I think they are just just being squirrels, I think they turn off on different foods just so we have to jump through hoops. :rotfl
On another note... I have found with my girl and sugar snap peas she prefers the peas with the fatter pods and they have to be fresh.

I find they love snow peas BEFORE they know that sugar snaps exist. After the sugar snaps, there's no going back, apparently.....:shakehead :sanp3

The older guys were like 'ok, who is trying to play a joke on us? WHAT ARE THESE AND WHERE ARE OUR SUGAR SNAP PEAS???' Bean. Frankie and Peanut were like 'YUMMY'.....kids! lol

I also find that my rehab squirrels prefer sugar snaps to snow peas. But when I gave them home-grown fava bean pods, they went berserk for them and wouldn't touch the snaps afterwards. It's true though ... they will be crazy for one food and then suddenly turn up their little noses at it.

Like I always say, they have the eating preferences of toddlers.
