My mom spotted a baby opossom yesterday while walking her dog..She says it's about 5" in length..

It would be nice if someone can go to the area and see if they can find it/them..

The wooded area is located at the Brookside Manor Apartments in Brandon..It was near the man made pond with a water fountain...Thanks...

Good Day -

I answered YOU in PM last night.... but woke up with this little possum on my mind. Has your mother seen the little guys any more?
As stated in the my PM to you ---possum are quit capable of caring for themselves at this stage of life IF they are separated from mom.

A wildlife rehabber would release him when he was 9 inches long, was eating on his own and no longer came back (follow them) when they walked
away from him while out in the back yard for outside time. "your mom can try placing some dry cat food out for him to eat"

P.S.
BTW ---I not longer have my baby possums as Rescue04 was kind enough to take them for me during this emotional rough spell in my life.
(my dad passed away - and then - the dad that made me, my bio dad, is dying of stage 3 bone cancer) <3

My mom has not seen the baby today...Yesterday it was near the road and her dog scared it off into the woods across the pond...

She won't put any food out for it because she said it will draw the rats..I hope it's ok....

Rhapsody..I'm sorry to hear about your situation..I will keep you in my prayers..

possums are survivors....at that size...it should be okay on it's own. if anyone, who does not know what they are doing, tries to pick up the baby you might get bit....and if you have never been bitten by a possum before....it hurts like hell. i would leave well enough alone at that size...but if the baby looks skinny or disorinted....then trying to catch it and getting it to a proper rehabber is best.

P.S. Carolyn...the babies are doing great and lapping their formula out of a bowl now. they are also on foods and eating very well. they are fat, happy little things.

Hope all is going well with the POSSUM - and good to hear that my little ones are doing well in the loving care of Rescue04.... :Love_Icon

I think Mother Nature is insisting that I have a Possum of my own to raise as she has brought yet another possum into my life.... a single female that is about 5 weeks old ---I named her RUBY (for having found her in the month of July - my birth month and birth stone).

My niece was having her car worked on after it had sit in the yard for the last three months and when her dad went to turn the car on --the poor little possum was flushed out with some fluid that came gushing out, the rest is history.... now she is safely with me - eating fox valley and staying warm on a heating blanket - - -> Ruby is the most calm and gentle possum I have ever come across.

I don't know how he's doing...my mom has not seen him again...I hope the little possie is ok and safe..I'm sure he is doing well...... at that size a possum is quite capable of caring / surviving IF it falls off my moms back while she is in motion...... which is prob what happened here.
