Terri's tail has become thinner than it used to be and just where the tail starts its quite grown but then it gets thinner...She used to have a fluffy lovely tail before and im getting worried...she eats the balls, veggies and fruits plus drinks milk daily...what could be the cause?? please help...
other than this she seems fine...energetic and playful as ever...

I don't know specifically about Sri Lankan squirrels but the New World squirrels grow and shed several coats of fur per year and the shedding process can leave them looking pretty moth eaten! What you are describing sounds like she is shedding. What is amazing is that after looking so shabby, they seem to replace all of that tail fur almost overnight and go from a mess to a cover squirrel in the blink of an eye!

it sounds like a regular moult to me -- shedding and re-growth of the tail fur. Eastern greys often get this thing where the tail sheds from the base going outward, and it looks as if somebody shaved the first three inches or so. Then as it grows in, the new growth is a different color and it looks like a raccoon tail :thinking....I wouldn't worry too much unless it doesn't grow back in for several months. THAT might mean a deficiency in her diet.

I tried everthing with Knothead I can't tell you why he lost his hair but after talking to his Vet we decided it was a deficiency of some sort.....Knothead would take 1-3 cc's every night....It really just depends on how much he wants:thinking I offer it every night some nights he takes it some night he don't....His tail look absolutly beautiful now......

There mites be a possibility that she nibbles on her own tail due to boredom..The same was the case with my squirrel..her tail looked uneven and kinda shedding of hair in the middle..I used to apply mineral oil daily on her tail and she got absolutely fine in 2 week...please try it..it's 100 % safe..hope this helps...oh I forgot to mention...I used baby oil :) which has mineral oil in it
