Ok, so yesterday I went to pick a baby that had fallen out of a very tall tree, I mean TALL, I could barely make out the nest.... anyway, the folks that called me had watched it for 5 hours, no Momma however lots of cats starting circling :nono ! That and ants ad moved in so I thought it best not to wait anymore!
It is a little boy, looks good, no bruises visible, has fur and I would put him at about 4 weeks! He was very cool to the touch, even though we had 104 outside and he is very dehydrated!
My son call's him Wiggle:tilt because he is all over the place! He wont eat or take fluids! I've tried everything I can think of, water, sugar water, pedilight.... have formula still from Henrys have added vanilla yogurt, worked great for Peanut when he didn't want to eat but not this one..... SOOOOOO what else can I try :thinking

I still have all my stuff from Peanut and Kiwi, Peanut by the way is a permeant part of the family really :Love_Icon He goes out in the morning but returns everyday around 5 to play, eat and sleep...works for us! Maybe because his first outing was so traumatic, poor baby! Anyway he is doing great considering he was a pinkie when he came into our hearts!

Hope to hear from someone soon...... Oh there is a little poop on his tiny little tushy, was on his little feet too and since he is too little to go by himself I assume its the runs :shakehead

Hi:

Thanks for taking this little one in :thankyou I would repost this in the Emergency Life threatening thread, in order to get the rehabbers' attention ASAP. This baby needs attention quick, especially if he's cold and dehydrated.

In the meanwhile, place the baby in a small box or plastic container with a heating pad underneath OR make a rice buddy for him (a sock filled with rice and place in the microwave for 25 secs) as it is VERY IMPORTANT to warm him up before you attempt to feed him any liquid. NEVER feed a cold baby.

You can prepare some Pedialyte in the meanwhile - or make the Homemade recipe for it. (1 quart warm water, 3 TBS sugar, 1 tsp salt). Once he is warmed up start offering the Pedialyte - if you buy some try to get the fruit flavored one. They usually hate the other kind but usually will take the fruit one.

hi peanuts mom. Make the homemade pedialyte, warm it up really well, and drop a bit of apple juice or apple sauce into it for flavor. Then WRAP the baby in some fleece or soft cloth and gently put the tip of the syringe under his muzzle, on the SIDE of his mouth. Drip in some liquid. Drip by drip, he will at first HAVE to swallow it and then he's gonna see how delicious it is. First rule of a Pinky Mamma: NEVER take NO for an answer from a pinky! :D

ALSO: try pottying him first before feeding. Every once in awhile there's a baby who needs to go BEFORE they eat. Squirrel mammas seem to potty their kids a LOT...read kelly brady's "Paco" thread.

Ok, he is on heating pad and pretty well warm now! Have pushing fluids again.... he lets it run right out of his mouth! He moves around really well, strong grip, clean, fur is shiny... but wont take anything! I of course will keep trying, I think its also.... well not a nipple! I thought clear pedia is the one to use so.... guess I will sent someone for the fruit kind!
Thanks for the fast response, I know I can always count on you all :thankyou

Okay, so he weighs in at 60oz, looks good and is finally starting to take to the feedings! At first he only wanted liquids, no formula but now I added a little bit of vanilla yogurt and..... he's eating! I had to do the same with Peanut for a while and slowly take it out, he did not like that at all :nono

Here is my question:thinking ..... since he is, I'm guessing around 4 weeks, has fur, tail has fur, belly not so much, he has a little bitty tooth in front, felt it when he tried to suck on my finger after he lost the nipple :sanp3 eyes are still closed but look like they might pop open soon, should I go to 20/50 instead of 32/40?
Thanks for the input.....oh we named him Taz since he is all over the place, makes a lot of noise, unlike any of the others I've had! He also keeps crawling under the heading pad?! The pad is covered in its own bag, plus I have a blanket over it and its set on low, can't be too hot can it? He has a little stuffed toy in there as well that he can climb up on and he does that too!

I was told to keep giving the 32/40 to the loveys which were the first ones I used Fox Valley with and they all did great. So glad he is now eating.

The heating pad can get too hot so be careful with that. I put it under the box or cloth carrier I have my little ones in. That way they can't get to the pad itself. Just put blanket, etc under the baby and check to see if it is warm enough. Also I leave an area unheated they can move to in case they get too warm.

Hope that helps. Good luck with your new little one.
