Okay, so this isn't about squirrels, but I know this thread will get more attention here than in off-topic. My ratties could use your seasoned advice.

So, my ratties are fine, but will soon be very thirsty if I can't resolve this problem.

I am looking for a no-drip waterbottle that will actually work!

The waterbottle I was using has started dripping, to the point that the whole bottle is drained in about an hour. I rushed to the feedstore to find a solution. I went with a different brand, the lable said it will not drip. Unfortunately, it won't drip at all! My ratties keep licking it, and looking up pitifully at the bottle. There's water in there, it just won't come out! Help please! Anyone know of a reliable brand and bottle that I can go with? Is there an alternative to water bottles?

I'm very concerned. Please help if you can.

My understanding is that the Lixit brand bottles are pretty good. I don't use them - even my deer mouse drinks from a little crock with marbles in it...

My first bottle was a Lixit.:dono Granted it was a cheap plastic one from Petco. Does it matter what kind of bottle it is?

Okay, thanks. Missed the comment about the crock. I might do that and check out Leigh's bottles.
:thankyou

So long as you have no worries about escapes or being bitten, a crock is fine for water. With rehab squirrels, water bottles (Lixit are the ones I use) are a must, because they tip the crocks over constantly and you'll lose a digit or two going in to get it....:sanp3

Here is a link for you. I use the 26 oz water bottles for my squees and they work fine. DO make sure you get the 26 oz one not the 12 oz... i.e. it is not that they leak, instead with the smaller 12 oz bottle sometimes the water comes down when they try to drink, sometimes it doesn't ... However I have NOT experienced any problems at all so far with the big ones. Also, make sure the bottle is filled to the rim before you put the cap back on. If a water bottle is not full to the rim then the simple pressure of the air will make it run.

Feeze,
Don't hit me please if this is way stupid, but check:

1. If you have a seal [sometimes they're missing!] and if it's snug and tight in the nozzle
2. Fill it to the tippidy-top. Totally 100% full
3. Fill it with room temperature water [expansion and contraction]

If all these are perfect, you might have a dud. Return it.

:D

OOPS... seems Pierre and I had the same idea in mind :) Pierre finished typing before I corrected my post ... sorry :tilt

BTW, the big water bottle because of its size and length of the nozzle allows you to fasten it to the outside of the cage and still leave enough length of the nozzle for them to reach and drink comfortably. A big advantage since you don't have to reach inside the cage to refill it ;)

Also, after you fill it 100% full, screw the lid back on tight, turn it nozzle down, and gently squeeze a few drops out. If it still leaks after this, return it.

I tried a bunch of different brands, but in the end, the cheap plastic no-name ones from Walmart seemed to work the best.

Good luck!

The one I have for the mouse is open. It uses gravity and the water is always out. It works like the big water dishes for cats and dog they sell. Open dish with a jug of water that feeds it.

Well, after buying two more water bottles (in hopes that one of them would actually work), I learned my mistake. Chris actually pointed it out, when he read the instructions on one of the bottles. Really, why don't they have these instructions on ALL the waterbottles?!:shakehead

So, now I have three working water bottles, and one dud. The one I said I bought yesterday, that didn't work, still doesn't work. It's not just me.:wahoo :rotfl

And Pierre, don't worry about it. I am good about laughing at my own mistakes. Even if it costs over $17 to realize my mistake.:tilt

Feeze—:wave123 Hi! I'm sure you already found a dripless water bottle, but this was from ls. She recommended: Lixit.

You can get them at Tractor Supply, Petco and Petsmart.
