I have just found a male squirrel that has been hit by a car. The neighbor said he saw it happen and that he was jumping up and down. When I got to him, he was curled in a ball. He's breathing and opening his eyes but has some blood coming out of his nose and seems to be sneezing. We've scooped him up into a box with a blanket (no food or water) and have him in a quiet, dark room. This is just horrible - I'm terribly worried and it's a holiday weekend. Please help - Any suggestions?

hi Tuckerboots,
A rehabber will be with you soon but you have done a perfect job so far. Quiet and dark is perfect. You will have help with the next steps soon. Hang in there

So far it's the best you can do. A rehaber should be here soon to help you. In the meanwhile... do you have any Rescue Remedy? If so, maybe you can spray some on the sole of its feet... it will help him relax, poor thing... praying for him & you.

If you have him reasonably calm, you can offer some water in a shallow bowl. Stress and pain can bring on thirst and then dehydration. Do you have a syringe? He will most likely be very thirsty and try to grab the syringe. If using a syringe go slowly so you do not aspirate him. If no syringe use an eye dropper. I would put on some gloves or a kitchen oven mitt. At least put a shallow bowl of water. You can offer apple slice, small piece of watermelon or a peeled grape. How is he doing can you describe any injuries??

A slightly damp wash cloth or paper towel could be used to blot away any blood blocking his nostrils. Move very slowly and talk softly to him always approach him from the front or side so he can see you at all times.

I believe someone is alerting some of our AL members. I and others may be able to help with some advice as we wait for closer help, if needed.

Thank you everyone for responding. My husband and I were contacted last night - we whisked the poor little guy off to the emergency vet to be seen to. After resting, he seemed a little more responsive so we're hopeful. Just waiting to hear back about his condition. Fingers crossed.

Thank you tuckerboots for helping this little one. Let us know what you find out about his condition.
I think I drove through Pelham a couple of years ago. Helped move my neice into her dorm at Montevallo.
