So my kids have been quite picky lately with their yummies and I gave them each a Tums tablet for fear they are not going to get enough calcium. I was wondering how often I can give them one of these without worrying about them getting too much calcium? They are both around 17 weeks old.

:wave123 Hi BeeFernandez22, I am not really sure how much or really how long to give calcium in the form of Tums but... you will need to supply some form of Vit.D3 with any supplemented calcium in order for the calc. to be absorbed or used by the body. You might want to PM 4Skwerlz. She really has a super mind and totally "gets" squirrel nutrition. Are your little ones getting any source of D3 from FV formula or a rodent block/boo ball type food?? Even daily direct exposure to the sun for Vit.D3 is great. I will check around on the Tums question too.

They do get lots of sunshine. I give them boo balls but whether they eat more than they play with is a whole different issue. They eat rodent block, I am just not sure if they eat enough to get enough calcium.

BeeFernandez22, Sometimes when I get a squirrel in that I am having trouble with eating properly I put the block/ or Boo ball/or HHB /or primate biscuit(or whatever they will at least try) in first thing in the morning with only one other small piece of veggie or fruit. It is kind of a weak "tough love" on my part. If they have eaten the block/or/or/or , then I give them several small pieces of veggies and fruits (mine love avocado)that they like in the late afternoon. But only if they have eaten the block or a few pieces of it. Also as part of this tough love deal I will only give one nut every other day. I only have to do this for usually no more than a week before they begin to eat block readily. I must warn of some pretty pathetic looks and hanging on the cage bars for a few days. However, poor nutrition = poor health or death so I snap right out of the sad look phase quickly. It may take a day or so before they will eat the rodent block. Don't give up.
