I have a tame bunny that has a fly larvae on it's back behind it's shoulder. This is a full grown bunny that is running loose in the back yard. I would have to catch it. Will this come out on it's own or do I need to try and get it out?
I have taken these out of kittens before because I knew it would kill them.
Can I just leave it in the bunny since it is full grown or will it kill him?
Thanks, Roger

If it's a cutarebra that you are referring to then it will eventually complete it's lifecycle and emerge. Probably catching the bunny to remove it would cause more stress that the actual insect. Just my theory.

I would leave it alone. If you happen to pinch the thing in half anf kill it while removing, you can kill the rabbit. The dead maggot would give off toxins and kill the rabbit. It will come out on its own when it is ready, but it takes a few weeks.

If it's a bot fly, I'd leave it be. If it is fly eggs (that turn into maggots) I would definitely try to catch the bunny because there is something serious going on with him because bunny's shouldn't get maggots if they are healthy.

It's a bot fly. I thought I should leave it but wasn't sure.
Thanks
