I don't know anything about ferrets but after reading this:

"Ferrets are obligate carnivores, and food passes through the digestive system of a ferret very quickly. They also lack the ability to derive nutrition from plant matter.
For this reason, a ferret diet must be high in animal protein, high in fat, and low in fiber." http://exoticpets.about.com/cs/ferrets/a/feedingferrets.htm

"Ferrets should not be fed like cats: They need higher levels of quality protein, more fat and less fiber than cats do." http://www.weaselwords.com/ferret-articles/new-ideas-in-feeding-ferrets/

I certainly don't think it would hurt & it may very well help. Just my inexperienced .02. Good luck! :grouphug

We had an issue several years back. Vet gave us nutri-cal. We also started giving vitamins Ferret-Vit I think was the name of it. She started gaining her weight back. She was 7 so was getting up there in age.

Uriah is 7+ and his brother Shiloh is also..I feed high protein to them...They get fresh chicken meat every day..3 pounds of meat lasts the two of them 3 days...

I've grounded up some of the meat and mixed it with a little bit of water for moisture..that's what I've been force feeding Uriah...He does drink water freely...
