So our local animal control called us lat last night and brought us a lonely baby. We know two things - he is real young - less than 5 days old & is a brid of prey - what kind we are not sure. We have searched for a picture of him and found several - but they do not tell us what he is. We will be calling a local rehab when they open soon - but we wanted to see if anyone here recognizes him.

:thinking are you allowed to have this bird?
legally?
:peace I have no clue...:peace
I was under the impression, that a fed licensed rehabber must be found within 72 hours, IF preditor bird...I have no REAL info on this...just what I have been told.
I have no clue what your little sweetie is, but it is amazing...
they are so soft and sweet, teeny tiny and then they grow into a magnificent killing machine...incredible huh!
Gotta love mother nature.

Looks like a hawk chick? Better let real bird people tell you though? He really does like a hawk though. Is that the whole nest? They do build a large nest.

I'd recommend you contact the Audubon Birds of Prey Center in Maitland (407-644-0190).
It's a really awesome place! :thumbsup

Yea i know about the law - but there is no one at the audoban at 9pm to take babies! no our animal control guy knows we are a stopping place in the right path. we do not play on keeping him, it is just getting odd how many babies - differnt babies we get anymore! El was thinking owl - i said hawk....what kind is the question!

See why you can't trust me with bird ID!!!:rotfl . He may be a small owl, but they( screetch owls) think they are as big as a Great Horned Owl. Some pretty confident creatures.

It is so nice to know that i am right...once again. he is a cutie. he was found in deltona. we just spoke to the man that brought him to us. i will be there when he is released again back into the wild. i hate giving up one of my babies...but i know it is best for him to be raised around others of his own kind. he is around 5 to 7 days old. so he is quite young.

Thank you ud o what, at least even for the moment.....somone was in my corner! But at least he is in a cage with 20 other babies! They even let us sneak in to see a few of the birds at the Auduban Society! When we walked up they had a bald eagle out for the girls to see! Here is a pic of what he will look like and the eagle we saw.

What a great looking place and birds too. I love Bald Eagles. I have a pair in this area on a farm that adjoins our property. Many times I see them eating whatever they have caught in the farmer's field. When they are there if cars are going by on the road, the cars will pull over and just watch as he eats. Sometimes 5-6 cars pulled over watching. So spectacular! :thankyou for the pictures.

Rescue04, I have never seen a screech owl that young. I have been working with a rehabber here who mainly does birds of prey, and the screech owls that are a little older are adorable. They are so fluffy that they look like little stuffed animals. They are my kids favorites.

Working with birds of prey is amazing! They are such majestic creatures and awe inspiring. If you have the time I highly recommend it. :)
