Hey guys, I was just on a run and noticed a Robin sitting in the middle of the road cars were barely missing it. I assumed it was a baby or teenager but it wasn't! Nothing appears to be physically wrong with him but it is over 100 degrees here today (abnormally hot for salisbury maryland) and his mouth was wide open so I am thinking he is just really dehydrated.
I put him far off the road in some shade but had to continue my run back home. I want to go back and help him out should I give him water? pedialyte? I know he isn't a squirrel but everyone here always gives the best advice!!

Hi. There are some MD bird rescues listed at this address:
http://avianprotectors.homestead.com/Rescue.html 'Course, I guess I should qualify that by saying, see if anyone here on TSB can advise for or against whomever you think about calling. Good luck. :)

I think the robin probably got clipped by a car, otherwise it would not be in the road. I would get it and put it in a covered box in a quiet location to give it time to recover. You can see then if it has any injuries. In the meantime, try to give it a little water.
I found a robin in the road a month ago with a broken wing and took it to a rehabber. He was able to be released after a little R&R.
Let us know how it goes.

PS: Don't put water directly in his mouth--if you have a syringe or eye dropper, put a drop at a time on the corner of his mouth/beak and let is wick it's way in. They can aspirate easily.
Thanks for rescuing him!!

ditto on no water inside beak... just have some available in the shallow dish.
adult bird will drink/eat without help, if/when recovered from shock.
or you can also offer fruit or cat/puppy food - canned or dry but soaked in water, they will get moisture that way.
if he is still there i'd probably put him in an open but deep cardboar box, with some paper or leaves, in the shade, with few bits of fruit (apple, peach, melon meat or the above cat/puppy food bits.
when he recovers, he will be able to fly out.
