Plzzzzz help...my Squirrel..9 months old is suffering from ear mites..I took her to the vet 3 days ago and I'm currently treating her with Ivermectin..But nothing seems to work much.I'm very worried as she keeps on itching her ears..She makes painful sounds while doing so and she also had a bleeding ear.Does anyone know any remedy I can use to clear her ear mites totally..1 more thing is worrying me a lot..I saw brown crust inside her ears and tried cleaning it off..Instead it got stuck somewhere close to her inner ear canal..she ran and itched her ears..could there be a possibility that it might have entered her inner ear canal?? ......I hardly have food and this thing has completely taken away the peace of my mind...:thankyou

Hi Prlphlpz:wave123
I sometimes use Pure Olive Oil! (On my Dogs.) :thinking It does make them very greasy. I am taking my Flyer Squirrel Piper Saturday to the Vet.
She has been itching her right ear a lot.
Normally on Dogs and Cats You will have a black dirty waxy looking stuff coming out. Some times there is a oder.
The only way to kill ear-mites is to put the med in the ear. I will let you know what the vet gives me for mine.:thumbsup3
Hang in there.
Christal

PS
There is a medicine made for Dogs and Cats.
They are both different.
It goes in the ear.
Try to massage the ear down under the ear lobe.
Some times if something is inside the ear. This will help it come out.
I don't think it went in the inner ear canal.

You can buy ear flushes, both water and oil based for cats and dogs...
however, you need RX to rid ear mites.
Advantage Multi or Revolution will kill mites, also ivermectin...
can you get these in India?
Advantage is made by Bayer, they are global...maybe a different name...
:thinking Advocate may be the name used in India!?!

This will most likely need to be bought from a vet,
It works!!!:thumbsup

For my cat I use Revolution, but simultaneously to treat the immediate itching a drop of mineral or olive oil in the ear and then massaging the ear seem to help to relieve it. After that she will shake her head and the loose stuff tends to fly out so be prepared to clean that up ASAP as it may actually be the mites.

Ohhhhh...I got some really helpful suggestions :) thank you everyone....BTW it's raining here in India...is there a possibility that she may develop fungal infection due to moisture..??? how do I keep her dry:dono ......I apply Ivermectin twice a day..should I increase the dosage to thrice a day ?? .....Those silly stupid mites have spread on her tail n feet..so she also itches her body..I change her beddings every alternate day ......I wish I could attach her pic..M still not allowed to attach files on this site

:wave123 I just read about your squirrel.....my Charley is going on 7 he has always had an ear condition :shakehead he was checked many times and it is not ear mites. So FIRST let me say as horrible as it seems to have the ear mites/they are treatable and will go away I am sure :thumbsup I wish that would have been Charley's problem so I could have been done with it years ago. So now you can go back to sleeping and eating again :D
I will give you a list of the products I have used/and still do on Charley's ears....I wish his vets could figure out what he has and how to solve it but I guess the best we can do is to just keep at it everyday and not to let it get out of hand. He gets sometimes green goop and then the antibiotics have to be given if I can't calm it down with other solutions. I use Q-Tip (cotton swab) daily but not to go down the ear just at the outer edge so as not to push it further down. I use about once or twice a month a product I get from the vet but I don't think it is an RX it is a very good cleaner, it is possible they sell it in pet shops/or on line :thinking it smells like apple :D ....
it is by DermaPet/MalAcetic Otic (ear/skin cleanser for pets) it acidifies, ph adjusting,All Natural, Hypo-Allergenic........for use in pets as an ear cleaning and drying solution...........you just let a few drops run into the ear rub the base of ear (a squirrels ear drum/canal is not deep like in a dog very shallow, so it doesn't have far to run down) then I either leave it or if there is a lot I use a Q-Tip around the outside of ear to remove the excess, you may want to use a cotton ball...this may help flush out mites and can be used fairly often :thumbsup
I also use on occasion an RX from my vet called Tresaderm A drop in each ear/to help with his ear goop.............
another is...
an RX from my vet called Synotic A drop in each ear/also to help control the ear goop.............
another is...
an RX from my vet called GENTOCIN (GTS) A drop in each ear to help with the ear goop..........this also has a slight numbing effect I have been told which can help the itching....
I have also tried the Olive Oil.....I have recently used over the counter Murine Ear Wax removal system.....however I was not very comfortable with this as I just tried this on my own without asking for professional advice :hidechair ......can't say it did much if anything...
all in all you need to just keep at it I am guessing until the cycle of mites are dead.....I also use Revolution in a tube like Atvantage but you have to get it from a vet...I put a couple drops on his neck just about in between the ears (NOT IN THE EARS) .....they say that works well for ridding mites....AGAIN Charley has a totally different issue than having ear mites and I wish I could solve his problem :osnap but I wanted to offer you some suggestions to ask your vet/but if you are sure it is mites I know they are stubborn but curable if you keep at it....you just don't want to get her ears sore from all the wiping of the solutions......
I will be back to see how she is doing and hope I didn't confuse you on throwing in so many products :tilt
Good luck and I will keep her in my thoughts:grouphug
Oh I live in HUMID weather almost year round...Florida so I often wondered about that, but Charley is mostly inside in air however he does go out with me daily...I just don't think humidity is his issue...but mites may live better in humidity...maybe ask your vet about that I would be curious to know the answer to that :)

i dont know how much this helps, but the last time i contacted a vet over the phone, he said to use neem oil for mites/ fleas etc.............

im not sure if advantage (imidacloprid) is available in india...........

the other thing that i have used in the past is permethrin cream.............but im not at all sure about its safety in squirrels............

ivermectin is a pretty good drug.............did u use it orally or topically?

Hey thanks Charley and Chickoo..well here they wuldn't give any meds without prescription :shakehead ....N my vet is too scared..I guess the Ivermectin she gave me is diluted :thinking .....Yea Charley mites live better in humid places..winter cud freeze dem out..hence they choose a warm place in the animal's ear and feed on skin cells, dirt n wax  ....hope u're squirrel is doing well...Chickoo I apply Ivermectin directly on the ear..I don't give her orally (that's wat the vet told me 2 do) :dono
