View Full Version : TSB: MEET THE NEW BOSS (same as the old Administrator :D )

Friends, it's now official, although it's been in the works for months. Jim (Squerly) and Trish (Momma Squirrel), the creators and owners of The Squirrel Board, have given The Squirrel Board to me.

I've been the Admin here for years, and along with trusted moderators and Overseers I've been able to keep this Board running and saving and rescuing and delighting in those fluffy-tailed charmers we love so much -- squirrels. :D From now on, though, THE BUCK STOPS HERE. I will rely on my colleagues here to make the most fair, educated decisions possible.....but in the end, it's my baby on the line here and, like all my babies, I will guard it with my life and defend it to my death. Just lettin' yiz know.....:D

There will be changes. After 5 years of existence, there are problems and issues and changes in any Board that need to be made, but not overnight. One of the most crucial ones is an upgrade to the V-Bulletin format which is long overdue. Too many kinks and quirks, and I don't just mean those in our membership. :D

So, let's go forward and not look back, except when we're researching all the excellent info here. TSB has a mission: to save squirrels in trouble, to connect people who love and care for them, and to spread the knowledge and best practices of squirrel rehabilitation over the vast universe of the internet. Oh yeah, and to have fun while doing it. Squirrels ROCK!

For the uninformed--this was NOT written for the CSI TV show....

The WHO----We Won't Be Fooled Again
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@
We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgment of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
And I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again

Change it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fall that's all
But the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they all flown in the last war

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
And I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again
No, no!

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
For I know that the hypnotized never lie

Do ya?

There's nothing in the street
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Is now the parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again
No, no!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Thank you for all the congratulations and for not posting things like "Oh, NO!!! I am SO outta here! " :icon_devil

Critter Mom & others, I hope to resolve a lot of the format issues when we do that upgrade. We need to weigh the benefits of accessibility against the dangers of hackers & spammers.

Tiny Paws, do you have Java script enabled on your computer? That was my problem early on, when I couldn't get smilies. :D

On a more serious note, I truly want to take a firm step in the right direction for TSB, and the right direction is Zero Tolerance of individuals who distract us from our business of squirrel-saving with their melodrama, mean-spiritedness or just plain lack of courtesy. There will be a new focus on upholding the Rules; you can bet your next tub of Fox Valley on it. :D

Congrats IR! This is wonderful news. I know how much this board must mean to you; after all, you have had to deal with a lot as Admin and yet you still put up with us! This is great news for us as a community because with change comes revitalization. I am grateful that Momma Squirrel and Squerly got TSB started. A lot of squirrels have been saved and people like me, who never even knew squirrel rehabbers existed, have found a new passion.

I am excited for the future of TSB. I support the zero tolerance policy for all and I hope all members can start fresh with an open heart and an open mind. I had given this website address to a nice lady who brought me three squirrels. I thought she would enjoy reading about the wonderful squirrels of TSB and seeing the pictures. This was back in February. Well, between being busy and having computer problems, she never visited. I spoke with her last week and she asked me for the website address. Computer problems are all fixed and she thought she would check us out. IR, my heart sank a bit. I almost didn't want to give it to her because of all the problems, squabbles and drama recently. I had told her how wonderful it was here but when I gave her the address last week, I was so worried she would come on in the middle of some senseless drama and would walk away with the wrong impression of what TSB is! So, this firm step in a new direction sounds great to me!

Nothing about how I function (or DYSfunction:D) around here will change. I'm the one who's usually around most of the time so feel free to ask for edits and such. You can also PM Bravo if you don't see me. Other mods are wonderful but might have too many rehab critters to be here all day, or might even have Real Jobs! :peace

OK the only thing that might be a little different is I will ACT on my instincts now, when somebody gives me "that weird feeling". I am so thrilled to hear this news. As everyone else has pointed out, thank you to squerly and Momma Squirrel for starting this wonderful place.

but.....

Back in 2007 when two little tiny squirrels were handed to me to help, I will never forget IR calming my nerves and directing me to raise those two babies, (Rudy and Gilbert) to release stage. Everthing new, everything scarey and so many questions were calmly answered by you IR. I have relied on that knowledge ever since those squirrels came in to my life and on going with the many, ,many squirrels that have reached my hands ever since then. All of thier little lives have been saved because of this wonderful place and the wonderful people that are a part. Glad to hear that none of the unpleasantness will be tolerated as this place is much to wonderful to ruin with unpleasantries.

Congrats from the bottom of my heart and anything we can do to help, we are there for you. We are family.:grouphug

Boy, when I saw the title of this thread two days ago, I was honestly reluctant to open it. Who is this strange person that is claiming to be the "new boss?" What was wrong with the old boss(es)?:dono Then I found out it was IR, and had to laugh at myself.:rotfl As many others have already pointed out, I always thought IR was the boss. Squerly and Momma Squirrel seemed to have been handing the board off to her since I came in here.:thinking

Now granted, I don't know what you're talking about when you say that we should focus on saving squirrels. I have never actually been able to participate in this act. So, I guess you can count me among one of the psychos, as I have remained a hyper active member since 2008.:crazy

Congratulations, island rehabber. It seems like you've been doing most of the work of keeping things civilized, anyway.

Best of luck with The Squirrel Board, island rehabber. I'm sure you'll continue to do a good job of running the place. :wave123

P.S. Why are all the characters of your name in lower case? Our of respect, I feel obliged to type it in lower case, even though it's a proper noun. But at the same time, typing it lower case might also be disrespectful, because your name is a proper noun. Is it lower case on purpose? I don't think it's an accident because with your new unlimited power, you could change it to "Island Rehabber" if you wanted. Do lower case names imply something I should be aware of? Do you want me to use all lower case letters when communicating with you so your name doesn't stand out among the other words as being the only word with nonstandard case?

But at the same time, typing it lower case might also be disrespectful, because your name is a proper noun. Is it lower case on purpose? I don't think it's an accident because with your new unlimited power, you could change it to "Island Rehabber" if you wanted. Do lower case names imply something I should be aware of? Do you want me to use all lower case letters when communicating with you so your name doesn't stand out among the other words as being the only word with nonstandard case?

you're adorable.
what's funny is that mine actually has proper caps, but when i type a response i never use them cause i am just that lazy.

Thanks. Sammy is waiting for me to tuck him into his nest for the night. Have a bunny on my head trying to groom my hair & a dog beside me grunting because I am moving too much. Call that a good evening :)

Bummer, the smileys don't move either. I like those jumping ones. If I can figure this thing out I should be able to show up here more. Can't view the board from my work computer anymore. Never thought I'd work for a corporation.

I would stick to what works; what is good. Hopefully we can standardise all stickys and make em all readily availble to netizens. Next, the site should remain easy to navigate and have as many smiley faces to play with :strong

uuuhhh, what is the 'rehabbers forum' am I there? I know - I'm a dork - TSB just logs me in and I'm so spoiled. I love the connections to the rehabbers here - I am new and since there is no support or training in Illinois (thank god I have rehabber friends and 3 vets are wildlife nuts that let me call them day or night and come to my house when I need them - Dr. Dana is hanging her tomorrow with me and the critters - I'm spoiled) I'd be lost. BTW - that's a fact, there is NO test, there is NO training, there is nothing in Illinois - that's why 50% of the rehabbers are wingnuts out here. I never knew rehabbers could be so..... normal until I found the right rehabbers and vets... ok enough of that...back to YEA - IR is on deck!!!

There IS a Rehabber's Forum, which is a closed forum where rehabbers can "talk tech" without chit-chat :D, when needed. However as the system stands right now I don't have the magic power to join up any new members, and the forum has been pretty dead for a year now. BUT...as promised, soon as Squerly teaches me all the magic spells & potions to make stuff happen around here, I will activate some new members.

Note to all beloved non-rehabber TSB members: This forum is not excluding you from anything fun, my friends. Since licensed rehabbers are bound by certain state and federal laws, however, sometimes we need a place to discuss decisions or problems which are best kept out of the prying eyes of Big Brother. :peace

That is wonderful! I have really grown with you guys - not kidding and have had a support system that has helped when I feel overwhelmed or bummed when I've tried to save. I just spoke with a scary rehabber (local) and gave me the heeby geebies - that's what I thought rehabbers were until I found good ones. Yea, its scary when a rehabber says they've lost ALL their baby critters 2 years in a row - so well done IR can't wait to see that area - I thirst for knowledge!

Could you inquire what they are feeding them ( FV...Esbilac...etc.) maybe a well intentioned question will save NEXT YEAR's babies at that re-habber...

Oh guys, if I could take you to these 'rehabbers' The hoarding, the dead animals, the smell. We have 3 naughty ones out here. 1 is in jail, 2 are under investigation ( the dead baby folks) These are who people around here meet and think of when I say rehabber - my goal is to not only rehab and release my critters but to one by one show folks that rehabbers do not = hoarders. When I started these folks told me mortalitiy rate in squirrels and other mammals was 50%. I soon found new rehabbers in other counties and became very good friends with my vet. Sorry - for thread-jack. I told my vet all about TSB today - she was so excited for me!!!

OMG, especially when you see totally inexperienced people come on TSB with new found babies ask for help and advice and go on to successfully raise healthy babies. We all have had problems as some point that we are able to work through with help and advice of our TSB friends and sometimes we have a case that is just totally leaves us wondering what went wrong.

2ndHandRanchRescue, sounds like you have your work cut out for you. You have your hands full with your rescues but you are also trying to change public perception of what a rehabber is. My hat is off to you! :bowdown

I've heard that ridiculous 50% survival rate for squirrels, too -- are they kidding?? My survival rate is 90%-- 95% if I can get them past the first 24 hours. (There are always the ones that come in dying and all you can do is help them cross the Bridge.) I'm no genius and I rehab out of an overcrowded condo -- so, it ain't that hard to do it RIGHT.

Friends, it's now official, although it's been in the works for months. Jim (Squerly) and Trish (Momma Squirrel), the creators and owners of The Squirrel Board, have given The Squirrel Board to me---May 30,2011.
