I have just picked up a young squirrel hit on the road.
Is there anyone in the Northern VA area that can help? I am willing to drive.
Right now sq is in fleece in a plastic tub in my quiet garage.

I think Farm Mom is a long way away. I have found a place locally. Blue Ridge Wildlife Center in Boyce VA. Am waiting for them to call me back.

I am about as far away from NC as you can get and still be in VA.

Ok just trying to help.
A vet will tell you to euthanize any car hits, just so you know.
Best of luck!

will pm you my number
in case no one is able to help...
can you see what the problem is?
is there blood? wounds?
have you seen him drink yet?
Maybe a rice buddy would help sooth him and comfort him.

A little blood around the left eye.
They just called me so I am enroute to
Boyce. The do rehab there so I think we
are OK if he is salvageable.

Just got back. He is in good hands! The first thing she did was weigh him and give him metacam. Then she rinsed his eye out and let him snuggle back into his fleece. She said he looked like he would be OK.

:thumbsup For Blue Ridge Wildlife Center! There were cages EVERYWHERE with all sorts of critters. Birds, Duckies, Geese, Owls and hawks. Plus all kinds of bunnies, squirrels, coonies and other mammals. They even do turtle repair! It turns out she is the one that rehabbed the RedTailed hawk I helped to rescue several years ago in front of my house.
:Love_Icon TY everyone for your help!:Love_Icon
PS. I think you can move this to Non-Life Threatening now. :)

Good job, Krawls! I found one by side of the road last year, looked to be in TERRIBLE shape (couldn't move rear end, blood in nose, etc) I put him in a carrier and tried to reach rehabbers. NONE ANSWERED MY CALLS! When I opened the carrier to check on him, he leapt out of it! I tried to put him back in- he climbed up tree- and he's STILL AROUND (has some major balance issues, but- it's been a year and he's still around!):thumbsup

Krawls, do you have any objections to me using that picture of the squirrel you helped, along with his story, in my biology presentation on squirrel rehab? If you don't want me to use it, please respond quickly, and I'll remove it when I finish up my project in study hall tomorrow. I have to work quickly, as it is due tomorrow 9th period. sorry for such short notice.
