Hi, everyone! First, I want to thank you for all the invaluable info you've supplied as I've purused this sight as a guest for awhile now! Roscoe is our 2 and a half year old spoiled "baby" which we raised since he was approximately 9 to 11 weeks old...at least that was our assumption from our research on the internet. As my boyfriend, Greg, was BBQing one evening Roscoe simply walked up to him and wouldn't leave him alone. He was obviously starving, sluggish, etc. From that moment forward we had ourselves a LOVE of squirrel! After A LOT of research and, of course, TLC he was awesome and has been with us since!!! Sorry for the novel but I think the story is a unique one. Anyhoo, my question is this: what kind of first aid kit should we create in case of squirrelly emergencies? I'm referring to anything from scrapes to possible illness (rehydration agents, etc)? Once again, thanks to all!

:wave123, :Welcome , Roscoe sounds great! Can't wait to meet him. Funny, you should ask that question. Most of the info you need is located in different threads throughtout TSB forums. We are, however, working on a project as we speak, to gather infomatiom such as you have asked for in a more readily available form known here as a "sticky". Please check our forums for the info you seek or a member will answer questions as you need. Again, :Welcome

:Welcome
About time you got around to introducing yourself!!!:D
Good to have you on board to share stories and love of the beasties.

As far a first aid kit is concerned it is good that you live where you can get veterinary care. As far as I know Florida is fine with owning squirrels. We have many members in FL.
first aid kit for squirrels...hmmm
-pedialyte dry powder packets
-Nutrical
-polysporin ointment
-Povidone (generic) or Betadine solution for wound care
-syrup of ipecac
-activated charcoal capsules
-.05cc O Ring syringes for dosing
-1-3cc O Ring syringes for feeding
-heating pad w/o auto shut off
-gauze pads
-vetwrap
-bandage tape
-Zodiac Flea powder or kitten or ferret tick and flea shampoo
-nasal bulb syringe
-sterile saline for wound flushing or nasal lavage
- wire and metal non chewable pet carrier
-silvadene cream
-baby motrin drops

This list covers Emergency First Aid for accidental poisoning and injury.
Any medications will have to be prescribed by a vet and should only be used under their direction. That includes deworming.
If your squirrel is free range in the house you should get rid of houseplants that could potentially poison him.
If you feed a high quality rodent block and fresh veg everyday along with sun exposure you should have a pretty healthy animal for years to come barring any accidents.
Just my opinion here

What fantastic help! I do have some of these items already but just want to be prepared as time is of essence in an emergency situation. Also, I do think that FL is ok with keeping squirrels but I do intend to check into becoming licensed. I understand from my research on this site that a wildlife department will send a packet out upon request for test preperation. Tickle's mom - What does NR mean? Is it "new rehab"? Excuse me for sounding ignorant! Big DUH on my part! LOL I'll attach pics soon as we have millions. Also have shot a lot of video! His baby videos are hysterical...what a change!!! mjs mjs
