It has been almost 3 months since Tigers Odontoma surgery. For the most part he is happy and healthy. I'm having trouble keeping his surgery side free from very thick sinus fluid. He had surgery two weeks ago to drain the mucus. Dr. Dan has him on Acetylcysteine and Saline solution, but he is blocking again. Path on mucus was normal. No infection. I have a cool mist humidifier next to his cage. Can anyone suggest anything else. He has very little air flow on that side. I hoping we can put our heads together and come up with a solution. Thanks!

Have you tried a saline lavage and suction with an ear syringe?
Sounds like there is an obstruction or swelling.
Maybe a steroidal nasal spray?

My suggestions, as well. What does your Vet think? Just normal post op stuff or not? If lab/path. is clear/normal, I'm not sure. I would try the suction, as suggested above. I have also used infant Afrin to open nasal passages. I use about 1/3 of a drop in the passage. However with the other drugs , I don't know about or if there could be interactions. :dono I will try to find out. Since your Vet is so good and knows this case I'd "bug" him a little today.:D Hello Vet,:poke

Have talked to Dr. Dan this morning. He is the best. Bless his heart, he tries to tell me what do do over the phone. He has given me some suggestions to try. I didn't know the congestion-mucus would move to the other side. Ugh. Suggested I go get some of those bottle brush thingies for teeth and try to run it up into his sinus and clear away the mucus stuff. He is also calling in another doctor friend in Metarie, La about 3 hours from me for help. I will call this doctors office on Monday. If this guy can't help us, we will be heading back to Raleigh, NC.

Thanks for the update. That bottle brush thing sounds scary but Vets do this stuff all the time. Nothing for them though.:rotfl Will the baby nasal or ear syringe work instead? Scritches to sweet TigerR :Love_Icon

Tried the rest of the weekend with saline flushing, but now completely blocked and the fluid just runs right back out. Have called the vet in LA and am waiting to hear from him. Have played with Tiger today, but did not try anything else. He is getting very stressed and so I just let him be a squirrel this morning. Oh by the way I couldn't use the toothbrush bottle thingy on his nose. I was too scared. I'm leaving that to the experts. Have wondered today if the use of a mucus thinner could create more mucus, like ones do in humans? Just wondering. He has had a lot going up his nose for weeks. My poor baby. He is so forgiving. It is just amazing how much this little guy loves me. Always sweet and always wanting more and more loving no matter what I've done to him. He's my heart!!!!

He is a wonderful squirrel. :Love_Icon I'm sorry he is not feeling so good. Let us know what the Dr. says. I don't know if I could do the bottle brush thingy either! Just sounds too hurtful and scratchie to the inside of his nose. I was just wondering if the infant Afrin would open the passages? That would for sure lead to more drainage. Not sure if that is good or bad. I guess just wait for Dr.'s advice is the best to do.

No good news out of Metarie. He didn't have the tools to look up into Tiger's nose. He is active and still a good eater. We are heading back to Raleigh, NC on Thursday for surgery to see what's going on up in there Friday at 10:30. Please keep us in your prayers. Will try to let the others know who have been following our journey with an odontoma.
