Hello everyone,

I understand that this is a squirrel forum, but I see people writing about other animals...
Does anyone know what to feed a chick? I found two little chicks about 4" high and their mom was nowhere to be found. I already gave them some seed that my quaker parrot eats, along with some wheat germ and cooked rice. And water, of course.
Also, do they roost like grown chickens? They were calm earlier, but now it's getting dark and they are loud and agitated... I put a branch near by thinking that they would sit on it and just sleep, but they just want to me to be near them.
Please help!
I didn't want to leave the little ones out there alone as prey to haws or cats. They kept looking for food but they are not scratching deep enough yet.
Thank you!!! :)

Hi there! I have chickens, I have guineas, I work with pheasant chicks and I've have pet ducks and do duck rehab. Here's a link. I hope I'm not to late. They need to be inside asap and need heat - a heat lamp is perfect and it has to be between 90-95F over will fry them under will freeze them. Moms do such good work keeping them healthy. What to feed? Easy- Chick feed special for baby chicks get at your farm supply store. Farm and Fleet, Tractor Supply Company, Fleet Farm.... etc etc
Heres a great link

BTW - baby chicks are awesome and bond really good. My Blackberry was raised by me and runs to me to be carried when I'm outside - she loves all!!!

Hey thanks 2ndHandRanchRescue for responding and EXCELLENT LINK!!! I kinda figured out that I had to bring them in the house last night and found some things to feed them until the feed store opens this morning.
They're fine today. I took some photos with a tape measure next to them that I can't upload here, but perhaps they can tell me at the feed store.

Thanks again,
Alekos:thumbsup

Ok, I figured it out after I sent the reply. Unfortunately, they're too large. Next time I'll set the camera to a lower file size.
Thanks again
