its been about 2 years since I have taken in a Chippie for rehab and I need to make sure Im squared away on diet
So give me the low down.
Also do chipmunks teeth turn yellow/orange when they are mature? This one has clearish white teeth
This lil boy... dont quote me on that his injuries make him/her so swollen Im not positive.
He/she was mauled by a dog..then tortured by a cat.. ran up a lady's leg..and she tried to release him/her in a tree but it wouldn't climb so she called me.
His/Her leg may or may not be savable its so swollen I cant splint it but the ankle is broken through and through but I got the bone back inside.
Upper leg is gashed open through the muscle.
I didnt think he/she would live through the night I gave pain meds and baytril yesterday. And the lil one is still with me.
But if you would all give me a low down on a healthy diet that would be one less think to worry about. He ate half an HHB this morning.

I just saw this post.
Parrot food is really good, however, make sure it is put in the freezer for a few days to kill any parasites.

I’m not an expert but am definitely a Chipmunk Ppl ;)
Baytril and pain meds – yes! Baytril, half the battle (cat+dog saliva), given right away.
He is eating solids, so there may not be any serious internal damage.
Teeth *are* clearish white for all chips that I’ve seen, including our current pet wild.
I’d probably clean flesh wounds with weak peroxide solution, and just keep him in a dry, warm, dark place with plenty lint-free (wounds) clean bedding. Quiet is good; RESTRICT movement, small cage for now.
You are really awesome on fixing up those wounds!
Water in shallow metallic or ceramic dish. Clean hay if you have it. Nothing with edges or very rough in the cage, so he doesn’t aggravate the wound.
Enough bedding or nest box for him to be completely covered.
Does he pee/poop ok?
Diet - I ditto yogurt or kefir (full fat, plain or flavored) – esp. with antibiotics.
Any plain rodent chow/block, unsalted nuts. Hold off on fruit while on Baytril.
Our chipmunk also loves maple seeds (the helicopters), acorns and yes- parakeet/parrot food that Marci mentioned. I only but that in sealed containers – the bins *do* contain parasites, for sure. If you have a mealworm laying around, the chip may fancy that (some don’t).
If you have Rescue Remedy, a tiniest drop on his bedding maybe.
What an ordeal! Thank you for taking care of the little dude.
Chipmunks are special (in a spastic kind of way) creatures.
How is he nowadays?

I have a baby chipmunk too :thumbsup. I go with regular squirrel diet for them, obviously just less food since their small :). Also, they eat more bugs, so I give mine a little grubs or mealworms.
