He's peeing okay...usually right on me LOL...I'm Charley's mommy from andrialilmomma's litter. I'm keeping antibiotic ointment on it and I soaked him in a bath this morning and he's peed twice. Thank you for the advice!!:thankyou

I put this on the other thread to, but I'm so excited I have to share!!! The scab came off completly!!!:jump All I did was wipe him to see if he would go and it slid right off with no help or anything! He peed like crazy after that, and then ate like he's never ate in his life LOL!:wahoo

It's better not to use ointment on their penises for rawness from suckling. They are going to eat it just because it is something that should not be there. Squirrel babies groom each other a lot, and antibiotic ointment is not meant to be eaten :nono

It's not just rawness though. He had a huge scab over it and it was engorged and everything.....:dono

Have you soaked the baby in warm water? :thinking After you soaked him for an hour or so. The scab should peal off. :thinking
Then put the Antibiotic ointment on there. :thumbsup
Just a thin layer. You need to keep the penis open so he can pee.
(""Watch for new skin to grow over the tip."")
If this happens you need to open the tip so he can pee.
Can you post picture of this? Is he still being sucked on? Is he sucking on him self?

Yeah he gets soaked every day, sometimes two or threetimes depending on if he's really having trouble or not...but not for an hour, because he simply won't have it LOL...I keep a really thin layer, so that it won't get all over him. If I were to have trouble with the new skin growing over, how do I go about getting it back open? Can I give him Pro-Pet Enteric Coated Asprin? I haven't yet, because I wanted advice first, but if it's an aoption I'd like to make him as comfy as possible. :dono :thankyou

I had that problem, and I just soaked it off every time I had to get them to pee... It takes a long time, maybe 15 - 30 minutes. You soak it off with a warm, wet, cotton ball. Don't pull the scab off. Aloe vera gel, fresh from a plant, can make a non toxic alternative to ointment, if necessary. Aloe vera is really good for cuts and burns. But they are going to eat it. You can really count on that. So don't put anything on their skin that you would not put in their mouths.

He just had his soaking again, this time for about 20 minutes. The scab came off and he peed a little but I think he already went this morning, so he didnt really have to go. I put the aloe vera on him, we have a huge plant of it that I didn't even know about LOL!:wott

Yep, it's this stuff:

and this is the gel that you want:

It's excellent for sunburns or scratches, or even for deeper wounds. It somehow speeds up healing quite a bit and reduces or eliminates scarring that you would otherwise get. It has mild antibiotic properties, too. They drink it, straight up, in Asia as a digestive tonic, and it is even supposed to be good to heal receding gums. So, with so many people drinking big glasses of it, eating it and sticking it in their mouths, it is pretty safe to say that it is not toxic for squirrels ;)
