This is the first time I have overwintered a female, so for those who have had females overwinter (or nr), do they make any noise when in heat? I have heard her make this noice once when she was upstairs, then last night and the before, she was making this sort of squeal sound. She even did it while she was eating a walnut, which is really strange! She is acting fine, climbing fine, doesn't seem to be in pain. When I opened the door to let her out into to 'play room' she stopped and never did it again last night. It was this sort of rythmic squealing, not a sound I have ever heard from another squirrel, but wondered could it be that she is in heat? Her back end didn't look swollen (but then its not like I look at it every day to have anything to compare it to!) Precious has never made this sound, it has only been Diva, and now she has done it three times. Two days in a row and one night months ago, maybe in December? If she does it again today, I will try to get an video of it to post.

Hmmm, I have a 2 year old female fox squirrel and she's never made any sounds like that. It seems to me though I've heard others say that some females do make sounds when they are in heat. Regarding her female parts, I've tried to keep a close eye on my girl and her female parts have never visably changed that I can tell. I'm sure she's been in heat and it's just been so subtle I haven't noticed. It will be interesting to hear other's comments.

My Ella has taken to barking when she is in heat. I about freaked out the first time my normally quiet mild mannered girl did this.:shakehead

I am assuming it would have to be a 'heat' thing (we all know how much fun cramps are...lol) I will keep an eye on her, but she is acting just as normal as ever. Haven't heard her make it today.
