HI, I need a raccoon rehabber in Ontario Canada. I am in Mississauga which is near Toronto. I have already tried Toronto Wildlife and they won't take her. I can hold onto him for a while but once he gets bigger I will have nowhere to keep him.

I really wish you were in the states. If you were then I am certain someone would take that baby immediately. Thank you so much for what you are doing to help this baby. She is a real sweetheart!

He is doing fine. I think he is 4 to 5 weeks of age. He's a real sweety. I see no signs of illness or injury. He was very dehydrated and ice cold when I found him but once I got him warmed up, rehydrated and fed he is good as new. he likes to touch everything, very gently but must touch, touch, touch! In order to get him to eat I have to scratch his bum. For some reason this gets him all excited and wanting to eat. He starts to purr and suck on my wrist. That is when I know he is ready for the bottle. I only wish he had a sibling. The poor guys must be lonely when I am not with him.

He thinks the lawn feels weird. Doesn't care for it. He'd rather have towels.:D

Here are a few photos to help attract potential customers. Maybe these will help close the deal with a rehabber. Come on, just look at that little face!:D

what a cutie. I wish I could help you. I suspect though to get this little one over the border would be challenging.

This pic is my favorite. I think he looks like he's shouting, "Hey! Can I come home with you?? I may be part monkey, if that helps your decision!" :D

Regarding getting him over the border, is there any possibility of some kind of permit that would allow rehabber-to-rehabber transport, or plain old citizen-to-rehabber?

They don't let raccoons out of their original areas "leagally" due to being a rabies vector species. Getting him to another city I culd do but to the states is out of the question. He would have to be a really special case to do so like those 3 albino ones that were born here recently. Even then it would be a slim chance unless it was going to a zoo.

same thing here...
they do not want us to take them over county lines due to RVS.
Fingers crossed something wonderful happens!:)
He looks great! and sooooooo cute..
I can hear his silly noises from here...love those baby coones:Love_Icon
{although we never keep them more than a day or so, always handing them over to a pro}
I am with you, I doubt he can be taken across the boarder.

I just thought that I would update you guys on Rupert. He has grown quite a bit. Here he is determined to climb the arch for the roses and grapes. He is in a climbing stage now.

You'd have to have a stone instead of a heart not to love a face like this. Sooooooo cute!

You've done a great job!!!!

Hey Squirrelfriend... I'm on it. I'm in Oshawa and can do squirrels, but I'm not set up for coons either. As for the Toronto Wildlife Rehab.. don't even get me started. They are of NO use to ANYone. >:(

I've sent out the alerts.. I have a few venues to work with. I'm Reeeeeeally hoping there is someone who is set up to take him (so many babies right now, many are FULL) but I'll let you know if I get someone, asap.

Enjoy him for now... what a sweetheart... I can just imagine giving him a snuggle and a 'good-night kiss'... :D

Thanks Kikiboo! If you fand anyone that can take him let me know. I don't have an outdoor enclosure for someone of his size. I would rather him have a soft release when the time comes. For now he just gets supervised visits to the back yard. Soon he will be too much to handle for that and won't be able to get him back in. If that happens that will be his release I guess. I'm doing the best I can. This is the first time I have kept a coon for this long. The last time it was just for a couple of weeks until I could find them placement.

I've been trying to reach somebody I know on the Ontario/Quebec border to find out if she could take your baby racoon but I haven't had any response yet. You can be sure that if I do and she can take him I'll get in touch with you.

Procyon is a no-go... received this note:
"Dear Andrea,

I received your email and sadly regret to tell you that we are unable to help. We are full to capacity with raccoons and do not have room for more. Good luck in your quest; I hope you are successful in finding someplace for this little guy. If you need the contacts of other rehabbers, please contact your local MNR office; they have a list of all wildlife custodians in Ontario.

Cynthia Post, DVM"

The KW listing is for Joy Huggins.
I took the OWREN course with her...she is really nice!
I don't know if she takes raccoons...but it's worth a try! :)

Did you want me to contact her for you??

I already contacted Procyon twice. Some of these names look familiar. I might have contacted some of them already. I will be doing some phone calls this weekend. Sorry I hadn't been on this thread in a while. But for an update...here are some new pics of him taken yesterday. He is getting very playfull. I will take him in the backyard and I will sit on the lawn about 4 feet from the flower garden. He will charge at me and wrestle with my hand then run back into the garden. Then he will charge at me again. This will be repeated over and over. The odd time he gets distracted by the odd flower or dirt. Then he's right back at it. HE can go for hours like this. The odd time he will take a 10 second break and curl up in my lap. then back to wrestling again.

What's the news????

Hi guys, Sorry I haven't updated lately. Just been busy. Rupert is doing fine and getting big. I haven't found a rehabber yet but it is only a few weeks away from release time so I have given up on that. I will just release him here in my back yard. I already feed two out back. Well, my squirrel feeder does anyhow. Once I release Rupert I will just leave out a bowl of kitty kibble each night to be sure he has something to eat.

He is soooo big now. He still follows me everywhere though. If I take him out to the garden for exercise he dashes into the flowers then runs back every couple of minutes and touches my foot a few times then runs back again. This is him making sure that I am still there. Checking in with Mom.:D
