Hi everyone.
Little Pat is now 11 weeks old and appears to be very healthy. (Pictures are kept here: https://picasaweb.google.com/108030956179322247167/PAT32111#

Here's my question: What temperature range can she take at this time.

We live in North Louisiana (East Texas) and our temperatures get pretty hot in the summer, but for a while the nights are cool. Right now we keep her room (she stays in our sunroom in - & sometimes out of - her cage ) at around 80-90 degrees. We turned the vents off in that room and fire up a little heater in the evening. This is because we do not know what temperature we should keep an 11 week old grey squirrel at.

Do i need to just turn the heater off? Sometimes it gets OVER 90 in there and she becomes much less active (which is what I notice the local squirrels doing in the summer here.) Maybe it's too hot? But I'm just afraid of her getting cold at night, plus I'm also afraid if she gets used to 70 degrees all day & night she will not be acclimated to the really hot days when she would be preparing for release.

Need some info here, folks.
:)

I forgot to mention she weened herself last week. Just one day she refused it and even though we offered (begged) for a week, she will not touch it.

Hi, Real quick I'm on my way out. I would absolutely turn off the heat. I don't know how others feel but I think that is way too warm. What are your average day and night temperatures now? I actually don't think it would be bad for her to become accustom to more "normal" indoor temperatures. These are amazing creatures, they will be able to regulate and become used to extreme temps as they need to do so. Please slowly adjust the room temperature to a less extreme range. Perhaps 70-78 degrees, no warmer. My over winters are in a room kept at about 65 degrees. I will put them out when the temperatures are above 45 degrees at night. My outdoor release cages have little direct sunlight so they do not cook if the temps become extreme. I also have outdoor fans if temps rise above 90 degrees. I'm in MD. What do other's think? IMO, Kill the heat slowly raise temps. More later. Out thr door.

By 2 months old squirrels are pretty much controlling their own body temperature...... no extra heat or air needed - they can go with the flow of what we are living in.
