View Full Version : Squirrel needs help broken back
Ok so situation in two words. I found squirrel in our neighborhood, he was trying to climb up to tree but couldnt because his back legs didnt move. So I did not want to leave him on the streets in danger and took him to my backyard and placed him in cage. I figured his back is broken because his not able to move neither his back legs nor tail. All rehabs are currently closed, and probably will be closed tomorrow as well. I gave him some water and carrots, bread and nuts, and left him overnight outside. I do not know what to do now. Please advise me what should I do before rehabs are open. Since i put him in the cage he grabbed on it and barely moved since then. His just blinking and moves his head :(

He needs warmth and fleece or flannel to snuggle in. Do you have a container that you could put fleece in and then set the container half on a heating pad and half off it. He needs this until you can get him either to a rehabber or a vet. So glad that you got him off the street to safety! :thumbsup :thumbsup
No bread for him though. I am sure a more experienced person will be along very soon, but he needs to be warm for now.

Better flannel or fleece or even an old sheet. Nails can get caught in towels to easily Especially a hurt squirrel. Is he an adult or baby? Even a box if he isn't too mobile. Warmth and darkness is sort of urgent at this point.
Well he is in the shoe box inside the cage, and its pretty warm outside.

He would be better off with the box half on a heating pad on low. Is there a blankie in the box with him? He may be in shock and really needs the warmth and quiet. Their bodies are warmer than ours so it may feel warmer out to you than to him. Has he taken any of the food or water?

Thank you very much. If something I will be able to drive to neighbor borough.

I am going to give you my email address. If you feel comfortable enough, email me, and when I get the info, I will pass it along to you that way. I am still waiting on one other person to see if she knows of a rehabber that can help too.
