A friend of mine on another forum found an abandoned kitten. She doesnt have any pet stores nearby (lives in the boonies LoL) so she has been giving it diluted human baby formula. Would the goats milk recipe work for a kitten until she can get some proper kitten formula? Im trying to convince her to go with fox valley's day one kitten as opposed to some garbage from Walmart when she goes into town tomorrow =/ Here is a pic of the kitten:

About how old do you think the kitten is? Im guessing it should still have a heating pad? Does it still need to be stimulated?

Well it looks like 4 weeks old to me or close to that anyway. I always used KMR for kittens when I did rehab so Walmart might actually be okay. A little kitten chow will be in the not too distant future too. As for stimulating, I hate to say it, but I don't remember how long they needed that. Put a litter box with low sides in with him though and he will use it as soon as he's ready. Just a low sided aluminum pan is fine for a little guy. I'm so jealous! :grouphug
Yes to the heating pad!

Thanks SammysMom! :D
:D i really love fox valley... you could drink it yourself .... lol.... by the way ... if you've got squirrel formula and asked nick to overnight.... maybe it could get there sooner....
maybe ask nick if anything can be added to squirrel formula ...like cream etc... although i'm always worried about kittens and cow products....
well...good luck ...he's beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!! and yes.. i'd still stimulate... warm, wet washcloth .....

Thanks for the info! Nick at FV actually has a formula specifically for kittens - Im encouraging her to order some when she can =)
Also to anyone/everyone - how often should kitty be eating/how much at this age? Does it need to be fed around the clock?

Based on the eyes, I would guess the kitten is at least four weeks old. It should be able to use a litter box by now but use non-scoopable litter for the next few weeks. Kittens eat anything and the scoopable has been known to compact in the intestine.
Goats milk would be fine for feeding until your friend gets some KMR or Just Born. Dilute it to half strength and warm it. If she doesn't have a kitten bottle, she can offer a little on her finger and see if she can guide the kitten to the bowl to drink. It will be messy but they are so cute when they are learning to eat.
When it has mastered eating out of a bowl, she can mix some dried kibble into the formula and get it started on solid food. I recommend Royal Canin Baby Cat. Kittens love the taste and the kibble is very small and easy for them to eat. When moistened, it softens the grains but doesn't make a mush.
Please tell her thanks for rescuing this little one.

omigosh, that kitten looks just like my Sloopy when I found her except his eyes are much healthier. (She was a mess, and will be half blind for life.) I love grey kitties. :Love_Icon
