View Full Version : Woodpeckers ran squirrel out of nest
Is that even normal? There's a family of woodpeckers that seem to have taken over a tree that a wild squirrel lived in. The squirrel hasn't been seen since! Did it just relocate? I guess with the constant pounding of the wood, the squirrel may have had enough! :)
I'm getting ready to release my 3 squirrels, and wanted to make sure there won't be an issue with the woodpeckers. All of a sudden, instead of squirrels, all I see are woodpeckers and redbirds, and all kinds of other birds!

My wild squirrels and the red-breasted woodpeckers always seemed to get along okay. A squirrel can build a drey in any good, tall, thick tree; a woodpecker can only use a hollow tree or a nest box.
Put up more nest boxes and everybody's happy.:)
Thanks 4S! More nestboxes! :) I'm hoping to avoid these woodpeckers, as we live in a cedar house! About 10 yrs ago they started drilling into our house! We had to get boards replaced! And talk about LOUD!
