Hi Guys,
I got home yesterday to find one of my adult squirrels badly injured. The first thing I noticed is that he is mouth breathing. With each breath, the center of his face rises and falls. Not sure if he has a broken nose or what. His eyes are both swollen as well. He was eating fine and getting around like normal.

Since he is a wild, what is the best method to catch this baby so he can be seen by a doc? I know it has to be serious if his skin is bubbling as he breathes. I tried to net him, didn't work.

Any advice is welcome! I feel so bad for my little (big) guy!

It's tough trying to capture a wild, but your best bet is probably nuts in a Havahart Trap - link (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7RNSN_en&q=havaHART+TRAP&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=1029212984655769577&sa=X&ei=GBvETZvzM8bAtgeRwM28BA&ved=0CFAQ8wIwAQ#)

The issue is catching the correct squirrel and making sure he doesn't get stuck in there too long becuase they can do significant damage to themselves! You probably just need to sit there and watch.

It might be better to just make sure he gets plenty of nutritious foods and see how he does on his own:dono

Could you try to get a pic of the injury...
If you have a live trap you could try that.
Dont be surprised if he eats really good and runs off to heal. He could disappear up to 4 days to let himself heal.
Is he tilting at all?

No head tilts, no unusual behavior. Acts like a normal squirrel aside from the head breathing. His nose is clogged and swollen as well. I hope he will be ok. I will try the trap this afternoon.

It sounds like some kind of sinus injury. I bet she fell and hit her face, perhaps on a limb on the way down. Poor baby. Have lots of Rescue Remedy ready if you are going to trap her - it will help with the stress.

I have to agree with CrittersMom. It probably suffered some kind of blow to the head. Wish you the best of luck in catching it.
