Hmmmm, I have the pinkies that were having trouble in the beginning that are now close to 6 weeks old and thriving, but......Last night at 2AM feeding it seemed like they both had big undigested bellies. The girl a bit more than the boy. Diet has changed. Due to them eating much more now that they are big, I have had to resort to warming the formula in the microwave ( shot glass ). I just do not have 10 sirynges to have sitting warming in the heating pad. So the micro will kill the beneficial bacteria in the yogurt for one. Plus, they have been liking applesause. They lap it up themselves. I also gave about a teaspoon of formula with whole grain baby rice cereal mixed in to the thickened consistancy. They went crazy for that too!
I am a bit worried about their tummies being kind of big. I wonder if they are just fat? They are franticly looking for a morning feeding, and I shorted them because I am worried. I gave the girl a bit of simethicone, 1cc of water and only one cc of formula. They are not very happy about the food shortage.
I wonder if I should just do a few pedialite feedings, to try and flush things?
Bellies are not round like firm golf ball, just full looking as if they just ate a big meal.
Just fat????

You're raising fat, happy little baby squirrels. :thumbsup They are fine. Are they pooping and peeing? They're FINE. You should see the beer guts on my kids. :D
Do NOT give them Pedialyte feedings....unless they are constipated or dehydrated, that will just give them diarrhea. Then you'll be trying to treat THAT.
There's a teensy bit too much BLOAT-A-PHOBIA going on around TSB these days. We can't starve our babies because the sight of a round belly fills us with terror. :nono :peace
(Not yelling at ya, WW -- just using your thread to speak mymind about something that's been on it for awhile. :) )

Why are you adding so much in? Can you get pics? Do you have rodent block in with them yet? That should be the first thing you are offering them, they are old enough to be eating it, mine are already and two don't have open eyes yet. Have they pooped, was it normal? I would take the cereal out (they don't need that and that could slow things down)

pappy's right -- adding cereal is very "old school rehabbing" and not recommended anymore by experts like Chris Clark and Shirley Casey. :)

OK, so just fill up the little pigs?????
Yes, I have rodent block in there and some of henrys blocks. They nibble at them but with no top teeth, they dont get very far.
I have raised quite a few squirrels before and I just dont remember these big bellies!! This is my first time with FV though:)
Wow, my husband is right. he says they need Jenny Craig ( diet ). They are just fat!
My boy was a bit constipated yesterday, but with a bit of help, we got that settled, and quite a few normal looking poops came out. Not enough to have caused a big belly. maybe 8 nuggets. peeing just fine. I help them pee still, but I have to change their bed all the time cuz I tell them they smell like a public toilet! So they are peeing themselves too.

OK, so I guess they are fine or they would be like balloons this am! Just fat. Very fat! They are pooping like crazy, so what going in does come out! I know they are fragile and they just steal your heart, so when I noticed those huge bellies, ugggg, panic! They have also gotten up to about 5 cc per feeding so I guess this is why they are so fat :D
I gave them a tid bit of watermellon this am. Wow, crazy squirrels! They LOVED it! They are growing up.:jump
