Hi everyone, its been a while since I was here! Hope you are all well!

I have had a 5 week old with severe head trauma for about a week, he is not developing normally, has a hard time nursing, now he has started crying when he is not being held, he is restless and started twitching. I am thinking his quality of life is taking a turn for the worse, but would like to give him every chance...I wanted to get him on Chris Clark's Head Trauma Drops but they are on back order.
Can you please tell me in your opinion what is the best thing to try on him at this point? I don't want to prolong things if he is not getting better.
His eyes started to open, but even that has stopped progressing..poor baby.
(I did give him a course of dex already)
Thanks for your help

I have a few NRs that have managed well with severe to mild trauma...yes some have lost vision some are just lost:) , but all of them are happy. They do have quaility of life..:Love_Icon
I am not one to recommend euthanasia for anything that wants to live, just me.:peace
You can continue to rehab forever, but you can euthanize but once.
It DOES take a serious commitment, FOREVER can be awhile, with head trauma, we just never know..
It is one day at a time.:grouphug

There are people that do adopt sqs into their homes, so maybe think about alternatives. TY.
I cannot recommend any drops, just the best possible diet will really do wonders.
Glad you came back...others will be here soon to advise...Thank you and good luck baby squirrel:Love_Icon

First being is he is hurt and a singleton he needs to be held a lot. He will quiet and find warmth and trust being near you. Make a pouch and wear it around neck. Just keep him close, stress can do so much damage to an already compromised squirrel.

I have NR's that are doing what was said couldn't be done. These special kids take all of your time and energy. So please if you are going to give up on him lets try to place him with another rehabber. As long as there is a will there is a way.

We don't want to give up on him, just concerned for any suffering. We are going to make a pouch of some sort, he seems to only like being held. WE I mean all of us here at the animal hospital where I work, this is going to be a group effort! He will come to work with me everyday, and everyone here is concerned for him.
I am licensed, and have Isabella, who is non releasable, she is my baby.:Love_Icon So I would like to try with him.
I thank you for your input, I have had 2 other NR before, each one different in severity, but this guy worries me. I will take it one day at a time and see how he does.
Thanks so much!! I missed this board!:crazy
