I wonder if there is some online company that would sell Baytril with out a script? Anyone know? I am going to search my livestock book here. They have quite a bit of this type of stuff. I would like to have some on hand for emergency

baytril is manufactured by bayer...it is absolutely for animals ONLY.
The human form is ciproflaxin...call your doctor and ask him...or your friends....
HOWEVER, antibiotics do not retain long shelf life.
Some prescription bottles will say expires a year after you recieved the medicine,
it will be a partial strength by then at best.
Keeping meds in fridge helps lengthen shelf life with some meds also.
I am not sure about these links, I know nothing about what they are selling.
OLD MEDS can become toxic also.
Old meds can give false hope.
Antibiotics stripe the tummy of natural gut flora, a probotic should be used to replenish them.
THis is why laws need to be changed, so every animal has the right to treatment...it needs to start with us, and our vets.
if vetrenarians would help push the changes, our squirrels and forrest friends would have the chance that they should. LIFE.:Love_Icon

Enrofloxacin seems to be what is at the Bayer site. I maybe able to get some of this as a generic, but I do worry about shelf life. I wonder what the shelf life is on them on tablets.

HMMMMMMM, where to get it without a script! I should have gotten some when I was in mexico. I was amazed when I was in the mexican airport to come home, there is a pharmacy where you need no precriptions at all. The place was packed!
If you have pet animals and a good working relationship with your vet, you should be able to get the Baytril from them.
Problem with drugs from Mexico is that they are often old or fake. I have two dead friends whose deaths were listed as being from toxic drugs from Mexico! They both were taking medicines from Mexico that they received by mail order. I will never knowingly have or use any RX drugs from there. JMHO.

Enro is the med name, Baytril is brand name.
Once a tablet is made into a home made solution, you have 14 days in fridge, per my vet.
Tablets start losing potency at 90 days.
Hence I try to get my vets to write a script for all my meds...two reasons...
1) Walmart turns their stock often, they fill alot of scripts, hence fresher than what my vet may have.
2) Walmart has a $4 list...
30 500mg ciproflaxin tablets for $4...
baytril 22.7 mg are $2.73 each at vets...tinfoil
I can treat and save a sq for pennies as opposed to $30-$40 dollars...I do alot of sqs, and have minimal moneys....so this saves lives:alright.gif
I LOVE MY VET! SHE LOVES SQS!

I have ordered some products from this site - it takes about 3 weeks for delivery so order before you actually need the item in question.

What? you give your squirrels ciproflaxin??? This is doable? Since it is very hard for me to get meds this may be an avenue I can use. PM me if needed.

Cipro is the same, so dose as you would for Baytril...10mg/kg
There are several peeps on TSB that can dose..
I tried for years to dose using the scientific approach...it would make me edgey thinking so deeply, headache and trauma:rotfl
it would take my mind an hour to unwind and get my math hat on...
then I sat down one day and thought out an easier way...and I did it...
ck'ed myself several times...emailed my vet for verification!
I was doing dang good dosing in a common sense easy method...
I need to give a class on the JIT style....:rotfl
dosing for dumbies!:thumbsup
But it works, I am right everytime...
I know it...amazing!tinfoil

oh man Jackie could I use a course on that! If I did not have Wild Mammal Babies I would be calling Dr P every time I had to dose ANYTHING. I cannot/do not trust myself to add two and two correctly.

right !!!:D
reguardless, you must have the formula for each medicine...
how many mgs per kg
the proper advised amount for each medicine and each species...
then the rest is weight etc...
another thing I ask of my vet for quickness...is to never put the proper dose for the sq she is treating on the label as dosing info,
but to put the correct dose for a 1 pound sq on the label...I have ALWAYS asked for this to be done...and that has saved countless sqs before I came up with the JIT method...
:poke you've met me..I am semi logical yet not brilliant...:rotfl
most times anyways...
:thinking am I smarter than a fifth grader????
I ain't going there!!!:rotfl

I know, the dosing of needs to be monitored. We get the injectable from our vet - more expensive, but it has a 1 year shelf life if refrigerated. The advantage to that is when we have birds in our care - we can inject the dose, vs trying to force it down thier throats.
We have a dosing chart we go by - it is 7 pages long and covers birds, mamals & reptiles. It even cross referneces some human meds vs animal meds for emergencies. Sometimes the math can drive you crazy...but you have to give the right amount. To much or too little can spell disaster for babies.

You can Pm us anytime, Jackie has our numbers if it gets desperate. Our re-habber has asked us not to post the info, but if we get the info on the baby - we can give the dosing instructions the to the best of our ability.
