Hi guys, I took my little fox baby out of his enclosure and TRIED to get a good belly shot...it wasn't that easy lol. The one I got is kinda blurred and up close but you can at least see the color. Definitely red like a normal fox but as you can kinda see the dark, blackish ticking blends down around into the belly area so that the belly color is just almost the same as the top...not the stark contast that you normally see between belly and top.

And just for reference sake, here's the other pic I had posted last night

Talula is one but a grey. This is how I see it. Her skin is all pinkish. Like skin for white people. But her fur is black and gold. Not sure if this is what the definition of melanistic is.

The pics caused me to have to go back and read all about him.
The work you do is remarkable!!! :bowdown :bowdown I find even in my small part of the world that people will just die to have a puppy or kitten....but when they find they are just as much resposibility as a human they get the boot. Sad.
Your squirrel is so cool!! Do you know if he is a fox or a grey?
Ive seen some Shermans that have similar coloration...only pics though so they might not be accurate.
Interesting that your foxers are seldom seen and live in the sticks. Up here ours are more of an urban squirrel....you almost never see them out of town.
I love to hear about all the squirrels in different areas and how their behavior is so different from region to region. Would make for a great read!!!

Thank you Joe, I enjoy my life and every critter I've ever been blessed to know. I cannot imagine doing anything different. My work, my hobbies, my days are all filled with caring for and enjoying "them"....as for the foxes here...I'm not sure, I may have mistyped..but what I was trying to convey is that here fox squirrels are primarily what you see, especially in town, yards, etc. They are "city squirrels" lol. The greys are elusive and rarely seen unless you venture into the woods or very rural areas and even then, there are still more foxers....In all my years I have yet to have a grey brought to me tho I see a lot of folks here are caring for them....maybe someday I'll have the privlige of a grey! :)

Same here. I never see greys...they hang out closer to Minnesota. In the summer it RAINS fox squirrels!! I would love to be able to care for a silver tailed beauty just once....but until then.....I am quite content with my orange bellied monsters. Check the out if you would like.

I dunno, I think the fox squirrels are cuties with their goofy faces and long childhoods :) Maybe we can organise a trade next year of something :p
