Thanks for the alert!
I emailed them to call me and can direct them to one of the local rehabbers
that will take racoons.
I will email you that list later too so you have it for the future.
It's good to have it on hand :thumbsup
I could do racoons (have my shots and work with them in my volunteerwork)
but chose not to because they need larger cages and I worry
about exposing my cats to diseases.

What shots are needed to work with raccoons and why?
What diseases do they carry that are contagious to cats (any other animals)?
:thankyou

from what I remember when reading requirements for becoming a wildlife rehabber, those who want to work with rabies vector species (e.g., raccoons, foxes etc), they must have their rabies shots etc done and keep them updated.
As for diseases, it's the infamous raccoon roundworm, as well as leptospirosis, and rabies.
I am sure, those who work with them regularly will have a more detailed info.

you said it all astra!
In florida, we do not get cold enough to kill the round worm eggs, so the only way I kn ow and have been told is too fire up the tourch and cook all wood, wire and dirt in the cage used to contain coonies...
this is main reason why I do not do coonies, and like djar said too, they get big, we are not adequate here to do them. Rabies...very serious reason!
Besides sqs rule!

Yes, I was referring to rabies shots.
You have to be vaccinated and titers tested regularly
to be able to handle rabies vector species.
I only do it in controlled environments where I volunteer,
not at home because I don't want to risk my pets and other
family members health even by proximity to the animals.
There's a lot of other diseases to be very cautious of
like distemper and parvo for example, which are
a death sentence pretty much.
Babies often don't show signs of illness, can even be in
care for months before they do.

I had a call three days ago about a teenager, he was real lethargic, obviously injured....but zero fear of humans. We had him observed, but after a few hours it was determined he had distemper. We tried to help him, but there was nothing we could do. Our re-habber takes them in, but she is still full and since we can not take any other than emergency cases it sucks.

Oh and those shots are like 2,100.00 for the series - what is why we never did it.
