i just gave Henry my 1 year old gray a rinse off n the sink....and noticed a blood red mark on his side! at first glance i thought he was bleeding, but it appears to be right under the skin. a red circle. he is and has been acting normal. any ideas what this maybe? just a bruise that will go away? or somthing he may need meds for >>?
any help is appreciated!
Thanks

Ow! That looks sore! I'm not a rehabber. Someone will be on this evening to help you. Probably a half dozen of them. Poor guy. We need to find out what that is and put some "goodie" on it.

Does he go into a nesting box? This almost looks like there may be something sharp that he has caught that side on while going into. Does he have free roam? Does he ever go outside? He is adorable....:) I actually have one of those parakett nesting boxes and I was watching one of my overwintered squirrels going into it the other day, and she got stuck!!! Had to wiggle that big butt around until it fit in the box....tight squeeze.:rotfl

GOOD questions Nancy!....yes it looks like a scrape or could he have been scratching?
Is it oozing or weeping?
Does he scratch it a lot?
You might want to put some neosporin on it and keep an eye on it.
Free range house squirrels get into all kinds of trouble!!!

Yes, he has a nesting box that is inside the house, inside his cage. i will check to see if something in there may have pinched his skin?.
he has been going outside some..sense the weather has been nice..there is no wound or anything on it .. thats why i was a little confused?..hopefully just a little pinched bruise maybe?
is this something i should be worrying over?
thanks!

Not unless he starts nagging at it or it gets infected.

Is he free to roam when he goes out, or is he in a cage or confined area like a lanai?

He is free to roam around in the front and back yard . I leave the door cracked open or i go out with him..He normally stays on the front porch though.. We have a big yard with maybe 3 wild sq on it... He hasn't interacted with them though...

He may well have mixed it up with a wild and gotten nicked in play.
Hard to say what this is from the picture, As long as it is a flat scrape and not raised like an abscess I wouldn't worry about it.
