My cat had a young flying squirrel and i took it from her. she has no bite marks that i can see and no blood on her. her eyes are opened but when i held her she just wanted to curl up and sleep. i have her in a hamster cage and she is curled up in one of my fuzzy socks right now. im not sure what i need to do or what i need to feed her. im going to put up pictures as soon as i take them. she hasn't tried to bite me at all, just clings to my fingers when i hold her

Cat bites can be deadly to squirrels,
they can get infections even if you don't see the punctures.
It would be good to get the squirrel to someone that can give meds.
What state are you in?
We can try to find a friendly member or rehabber that could help you out.

is it a baby flyer or an adult?
yes, cat bites can be deadly...anti biotics are advised.
It is sometimes hard to see the punctures, do you have a vet that you can take her/him to?

It's hard to tell age with flyers unless you are experienced with them,
or can properly weigh and measure.
Either way he needs help, so let's see if we can find a NC member
for you that can help you asap.
Stay tuned for more info!

babies tend to look greasy..
what part of NC?
TSB has several rehab members that maybe able to help.
Just a general county or town is enough info.

Ok I'm back home now. He is still young. He's in shock right now. I just hope the kitty didn't do any internal damage. I'm giving him fluids for now. Thank you again Katlova for saving this sweety!

I'm not sure what would be more disturbing to little Ryleigh's ego . . . having a girly-spelled name, or you not being sure if he's a boy or a girl! :thinking (ouch!)

Here's a quick pic I took of him. I'm praying he doesn't have any internal injuries. Only time will tell.

Aaawww . . .:Love_Icon thanks so much for posting. Yup, I'm with ya on the 5 hour energy drinks. The best part about them is that they are small, and concentrated and pack a punch - not unlike Flying Squirrels!!:crazy

I'm not sure of what I'm saying at all, so bear with me please... but... I htought that if an animal is in shock we should not give it any food or fluids... that we should make sure it is thoroughly warmed up first before giving fluids...
I'm sure Sissy knows what she is doing, I'm just asking to further educate myself.

You are right about making sure the baby and the fluids are warmed before anything. He is a bit dehydrated so I'm giving him Lactated Rings for hydration. He is snuggled up with 3 other small grey babies that I have. Something about other squirrel love that is magical. I have also started him on Baytril just in case the cat did get germs on him.

Oh Sissy he's adorable! I know your heart is in the right place, katlova. As sweet as he is you gave him up for his best interests not your own. You will be a wonderful rehabber one day. Two biiiig hugs--Sissy and katlova--and a little one for Ryleigh. Be well little guy! :Love_Icon

OMG! I saw the title to this and thought you meant that your cat had a flying squirrel as in he ATE it! I am soooo glad that is not what happened! Thank God that little guy is alright. Here's hoping the little guy stays alright and has nothing internally wrong with him. :grouphug

So im a littleworried, im not sure if Ryliegh was the only one or if maybe the bad storm knocked a nest out. but im worried Bella(my cat) might already know where they are and just go back for another. any suggestions???

If you let the cat outside, follow it.. that might be the only way to know for sure. If they're within reach of your cat, they probably need your help regardless.

the only problem is that i have 6 cats and they are all outside, Bella stays in at night but the other 5 arn't allowed to stay indoors. and my house is highly wooded and some of its not my property i could only follow her so far. she is also very smart and if she knows im following her she probably won't try to find them. i'll keep a lookout, im just worried i'll be too late the next time:shakehead

I see.. I know this is something that would be hard for someone to know, especially given the nature of cats and the fact that you have quite a few to keep track of so I'm not expecting you to know, but I figure its worth asking anyway.. do you know if she has a preferred "hunting spot" that she might frequent? Even if she does, I know its a longshot that she might have found it there but I'm just concerned that if there are any others, the fact that the cat could reach it means anything else can too.. not just the cats.. :shakehead

I am happy to announce the sweet little flyer boy is doing wonderful! He is rehydrated and ate 2cc's of FV this afternoon. He is a little sweetheart. So far he is peeing and pooing just fine. As I type this he is snuggled up sleeping in my shirt waiting on the next feeding time. Thank you again Katlova for finding help for him so quickly. :thumbsup :thumbsup

:wave123 Hi Katlova03:Welcome
What you would be looking for is a tree with woodpecker holes in them. May be even knot holes in a live or dead tree. It could be 4 foot
off the ground or even 60 feet in the air. Look for a tree or a limb that has blown down. Flyers usually have 3 babies.
If the mom survived she will be looking for them. Even the other Mama Flyers will take them. (That is if they have little won.):D
At least you found little Ryliegh!. :thumbsup
What a little sweet hart. :Love_Icon
Thank you Sissy for being there for this little Angel.:bowdown
