View Full Version : Q: Fox Valley Formulas

Missouri

Hello to friends old and new!

I have three young squirrels due to the March winds here in Missouri.

One is about 6 weeks and the other 2 are about 4 weeks plus ( eyes not open but I expect them to any day now).

The 6 weeker was VERY sick, but with Mandy's phone help, she is finally stable ( though very small for her age).

Anyhoo - I used the homemade temp formula posted here, then bought the Fox Valley that was posted. BUT - I bought the 32/40. I did not realize their was another 20/50 for their age group.

Is there a big difference? Should I get the 20/50? Or can I use the 32/40 until they are eating solids ?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

P.S. I remember how you all like pictures - so here ya go ... :~)

hi Missouri! I know a few rehabbers here, including squirrelsrule&bunniestoo, who never change over to the 20/50 FV and have no problems with that. I didn't used to switch, then I started switching, and what I noticed is the higher fat content in the 20/50 helps to bulk those 'teenagers' up a bit (you know when they get 12-13 wks old sometimes they start looking skinny & gangly? :D) Otherwise no difference. So go ahead and use the 32/40, IMHO.

I agree... :thumbsup
at this point its not going to make much of a difference, stay with the baby formula until all three are able to be switched over.

Personally, I NEVER use the 32/50. I have tried it, but have found that the babies don't care for the taste and will refuse it. So I just stick with the 32/40, add heavy whipping cream and full fat yogurt and I ALWAYS have chunky, shiny healthy babies and "teens"!

I've been told the same from folks who never switch over.
Some add the extra fat with whipping cream or yogurt.

It's hard to switch babies sometimes because they want what's familiar.
If and when you do switch them, doing it gradually helps
(blending in little by little over the course of several days,
until they are fully on the new one).

I have had no problem doing the switch so far, but if I do have
any that balk at the new formula I figure to just keep them on
32/40 and add some fat to it!

I get the 32/40 and add the Ultraboost from FV for fat. That way you don't end up with all kinds of odds and ends.
You could probably even add a bit of heavy cream if they are not picking up weight.

Hi I.R. !

Thanks for the info.
My 3 girls are doing fine on the FV 32/40, so I'll just stick with it.

Thanks too for all the other replies and suggestions about adding a little heavy cream if I feel it necessary in the future.
