Ground Squirrels

Hello! I have been hearing more and more that friends of mine have had squirrels as pets. Then I found some videos on YouTube where people have ground squirrels as pets. Is that legal? Or are there some versions of ground squirrels that are bred legally as pets?

I've seen Richardson Ground Squirrels sold in exotic pet shops up here, so those are bred as pets. As for the legality of them, that depends on the state you live in. In some states they are legal with a permit, in other states they aren't legal at all. Also be sure not to get them mixed up with prairie dogs, a lot of people call them prairie dogs because they look almost like them but they are a completely different species.
