Hi! I haven't posted in a very very long time, but I do read TSB alot! Now we are having a problem. Hope someone can help. Hope it's ok to post to emergency life threating. It sure feels life threatening!

Our Sweety will be 5 years old in July. This morning she was being pitiful.. She wouldn't eat, she acted as if she could not eat. So I finally got her out.

I was looking at her mouth, it looks as if she has more teeth coming in behind front teeth. Also her bottom lip has a sore on it, I can not tell if her teeth are through her lip causing the sore. Please tell me she is going to be ok!

My husband is call a vet now. It is going to cost $70.00 or more for the vet. They said they would have to gas her, to file her teeth. Pray for her and us as we do not have the money...we may have to sell something, if anyone will buy.

God Bless everyone!!! The Vet my husband called has seen Sweety before..it is Riverside Animal Hospital!
My husband just took his guns to the pawn shop to see how much he could get for them.

Sweety can't eat anything, she looks like she feels so bad.

If he gets enough money we will be taking her first thing in the morning.

Yes, please post your paypal account if you have one. If you would rather not post it publicly, let us know that you do have one and we can PM you for it. If you do not have a paypal account, let us know that. Maybe members would be willing to send a check or money order to your postal address which you could provide by PM.

Good Morning!!

I just can not say Thank You Enough!!! Jackie, GS1, Philomycus and All TSB Family!!! Coming to help us! Priceless~!!!!! :thankyou:thankyou

Sweety slept good last night! She woke up hungry!! She doesn't like ensure, but I fixed up what I had... smashed bananas, apple, peanut butter, and she ate alot! She did not want any water :(! But I put some on my finger and she licked a little! She also took a small piece of walnut and ate it! There is a sore on her bottom lip(such a little lip) and I think that keeps her from wanting to drink!

Philomycus will be here sometime shortly after 12:00! As she called me this am!

I will post more after Our visit with Philomycus!

Again, Thank you all! We are so Bless to have such a Caring and Kind Family from TSB!!:grouphug:grouphug

Yes, I can vouch for the Rescue Remedy and how well it works to calm the squirrel. Just used it on an 8 week old squirrel before a vet visit for exam and teeth trimming and she was so calm, laid back and did not seem to mind strange noises, sights and people. I put some on the inner ear (sprayed on my finger and then rubbed in) and also spritzed some on the bottom of her feet.

Ok, here goes! We meet with Philomycus, she was Awesome! She looked at Sweety's mouth, she has an abscess on her bottom tooth :(! Philo, said that she needs to be seen by a vet. and gave us some Dr.'s to call. I made an appointment with them for Tuesday(not knowing where the money is coming from but we are working on that.)

She(Philo) said she thinks Sweety's top teeth are split that is why it looks like she has two sets. Sweety is acting ok for now, but I am sure she hurts. I am of course upset! The fear of not knowing what is going to happen! Please say a Prayer for us!! That's all I know to say right now!!

I think the upper teeth are just really thicker than usual, more than being split after further thought.

It was nice meeting you guys too. Keep me posted on how this little one is doing. Glad I happened to be in town to help ya :D

I have some Good News! We went to Anne's house to get some help for Sweety.

Anne's son helped get Sweety's weight, she is a little wild but he said he would do it. He then wanted to look at her teeth, he noticed that her teeth had pierced her lip, so he pulled her lip back over her teeth, with a few injuries himself, Bless his heart!

Sweety is still going to the Vet. on Tuesday to get checked out probably put on antibiotics and a stitch for her lip. And her bottom & top teeth need to be trimmed.

We had a Wonderful Visit with Anne and Chas! Sweetest people! They were a blessing to us! TSB is Awesome! Thank you All again for your help!

I am not that great with typing out how I feel but I hope that you can understand my feelings!!:grouphug :grouphug :Love_Icon :Love_Icon

:D jackie/phil/anne/chas... all are warm, caring exceptional people... and i feel so priviledged to know them through this board....:thumbsup :grouphug

as for sweety what's going on with her?

i take it neither anne/chas/or phil were able to trim her teeth for her ...(i know jackie is too far away ... )

so that means that her teeth are difficult and may need a special vet?:thinking

your vet that was to charge $70 has he seen her already?

are you now looking at spending more than $70 for her treatment?

Do we still try and help you out? ... i know several people have asked already.... but then we thought you didn't need help anymore because phil was going to trim her teeth ....

the other question is .... how is sweety doing now? .... i guess to answer my own question ... she's probably still not happy and not eating because she must be in pain .... :grouphug

are you able to mash up food for her ...will she at least eat a little bit.... i'm so sorry ... i wish that we had pain meds for her .... :grouphug

:Love_Icon Sweety got pain meds. last night, enough to last until we see the Vet.

She drank a good amount of water last night, and eat some banana, apple, ensure peanut butter all smashed up from a baby spoon. She also ate good this am and after lunch she had two peeled grapes and drank a little water. She can still eat nuts out of shell.

We are going to try and get an earlier appt. with the Vet. for Monday!

We were able to get some money to take her to the Vet. God is Awesome!!

Thank you for All who offered to help...It was greatly appreciated!! The Love and Prayers helped too!!

Hope this answers any questions. If not ask me again!!!!:Love_Icon

Update on Sweety. She went to the Vet. yesterday! Her teeth were through her lip, the Dr. cleaned her wound she did not put in any stitches, as she wanted it to heal naturally. Sweety lip has a little gap in it. The Dr. trimmed and filed both sets of teeth. She said something about her teeth not looking the same as other squirrels.

She gave Sweety Baytril and a pain medication called Torbutrol, she wanted to experiment with the dose as it could cause sedation so we only gave her a smaller amount then what was suggested for her weight. She has only had one dose but she was not sedated. Going to call Dr. to let her know.

Sweety was given fluids by a needle for dehydration. There was alot said yesterday about Sweety, the Dr. wanted her to stay for a couple of days to help make sure Sweety was eating and getting all she needed, but of course we could not afford that, so we took her home.

We gave her the medicine she only ate the banana milkshake. I tried all kinds of things to get her to drink but she would have none of it. I made pecan water, tried the goats milk and pecan, plain bottle water and tap water. Then my husband suggested power aid, I told him I did not know if that was ok but we tried it anyway. She licked at that, maybe four or five laps.

Hope you all can understand. I have alot going on right now, and I want the best for Sweety. She is not as tame as some of the other squirrels I have read about. So that makes giving her medicine a little tough. She lets me pet her and love on her, on her time, other than that it is a chase. Then she gets mad because she does not want to be restrained.

Any advise on anything I have written, I will surely appreciate if you need more info. just ask.

Sweety will eat piece of pecan and walnut, so I don't know if it is that she can't eat or she is just not liking her choices. She was raise up eating the veggies, fruit, nuts, she doesn't like rodent block, I just don't know what to get to help her eat like she use too. I am going to order some HHB, she has had them before but only picks out the nuts, but maybe she is getting more in her. Sorry this is so much, but this is part of what's going on with my Family and You all understand about Loving a Squirrel! Thank you for your help!

First, I think it is GOOD that you did not leave her at the vets. I would never leave one of my animals overnight unless they were receiving some treatment that I could not do at home. There is much less stress for them if they are with their people in their familiar surroundings.

Have you tried feeding Sweetie some Fox Valley with a syringe and nipple? It will get lots of nutrients into her for one thing, and syringe feeding, even an older animal, will really increase the tameness and bond – it takes them back to being a baby and sort of lets you restart the clock. Big cat trainers always bottle feed their adult lions and tigers to keep them “soft.”

If dehydrated, she needs extra fluids. You can buy some flavored pedialyte – orange is good – or make your own from:
1 teaspoon salt
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 quart water

Because of the salt, use these only for 24 hours. Then, try switching to plain water with some apple juice or other clear juice added to it to give it some sweetness and flavor. If need be, these can be syringe fed, too.

Have you tried making Boo Balls? The official recipe is in the Nutrition Room, but basically is it ground up rodent block like Harlan Teklad or Oxbow Regal Rat, Fox Valley formula powder, finely chopped nuts like pecans, mixed with enough baby food or yogurt to make a texture like cookie dough and rolled into little balls. You can feed as is and they will be soft, or bake in a 200 over for half an hour and they will be a little stiffer. Most squirrels just love them.

If the banana milkshake is Jackie’s recipe with the vitamin powder, Sweetie is getting good nutrition from it.

If the meds are hard to get in her – and the liquid Baytril is pretty nasty tasting – try this: pull up the amount of medicine into the syringe that she is to get at each dose. Then pull up an equal volume approximately of a very sweet syrup – grenadine is good, maple syrup will work, even Karo. Pull the plunger all the way back in the syringe and the meds and syrup will mix in the syringe. It won’t taste so bad then and giving the meds won’t be so stressful on both of you.

When Boo is having problems, she will usually ALWAYS drink vanilla Ensure!!(there are other flavors) I put it in a syringe and warm it in a glass of hot water. If Sweety doesn't like it, you can always drink it! It is sold in a few different sizes, I get the smallest size in the six pack. If you go online to the Ensure website and sign up, you can get coupons for at least $1.50 off the pack.

Sending healing thoughts to Sweetie!:grouphug

Hey:wave123 Sweety's Momma and Daddy.:grouphug You can always bring Sweety back here for a few days if she is being resistant taking her meds. Chas has a way as you saw when you all were here. Our price is just so reasonable-free!:jump
You know she will get the best here(other than YOUR love.:Love_Icon ) So glad the vet visit went well, Dr (either one) is wonderful.:thumbsup Your phone number has been misplaced in the shuffle, so either way would love for you to give me a call. I really do want to discuss her teeth and what was said. That knowledge may help me help another squirrel someday, I never want to stop learning.

Thank You, for the Wonderful Advice, I am trying Everything! I do not have any FV so I'm using ensure instead!
Today I am gonna try the Gourmet Veggie yummy! Sweety is still eating a little of the banana milkshake, she wants to eat things like Avacado, butternut, sugar peas(opened) and nuts, I guess thats because it is not wet and doesn't get on her little lip!

She drank from her water bottle this am, and we almost had a party :)!!!!! I had to get tough with her about her meds. and I won! She needs her meds!!

I am going to try and get a picture of her lip today and will post it as soon as I can!!!

Just caught up on Sweety's thread and glad she is eating her milkshake and other good snacks. I see that so many TSB members have already been on and giving you great advise too.

Did the vet say if she will need another trim or was this some kind of injury that this trim has corrected?

I am looking forward to seeing some pictures of Sweety:Love_Icon :grouphug :Love_Icon
