I basically just took this from my introduction post at the urging of the repliers, though I do have a few things to add.

I found a baby squirrel this afternoon getting attacked by two small dogs. They had him at the base of a tree and it seems the dogs roughed him up pretty bad. I picked him up and brought him inside and cleaned him up a bit, there were two small gashes that cleaned up pretty easily. I looked up the emergency care points and made a run to the store for a syringe and Pedialyte, and I've fed him twice now as described in the videos and instructions, and he seems to be alright with that.

My biggest concern is that when he attempts to move around, he does not use his back legs at all. I can't make the call, in no way would I like to come across like I have any idea about animal care, but he has the symptoms of possible paralysis. I have attempted to get him to urinate using a Qtip, but have failed thus far.

He has been oddly cuddly for a wild animal, I've held him multiple times today/tonight and he just cuddles against me. I've set up a little basket with a few old shirts and a heating pad underneath half of the living area. The pad turns off every hour, but I have terrible sleep patterns so I dont mind waking up every hour to turn it on.

His eyes are open, he has hair on his entire body, including belly, and he has hair on his tail that lays down flat with the tail, leading me to assume he has to be around the 5 week period.

Any help or tips regarding this would be extremely helpful! I don't know what to do about the legs, he is just next to be sleeping at the moment. I also do not know the laws in Texas about keeping a squirrel in Texas, but my current main concern is getting him the attention he needs to keep him safe and healthy.

Thank you,
Rush

hi:

is he peeing/pooping on his own? ..if not he does need to be stimulated after every feeding/or pedialyte... he probably will poop every other feeding but he should be peeing after every feeding.

some rehabbers use a warm, moist facecloth to stimulate them....

and i think you have to spend at least a few mins ..without scratching them ofcourse....

i think at least one rehabber used a bare hand ... that's up to you ....

he might be paralyzed or he could just be hurt and will recover....

we have members near houston who can help...i'm sorry i'm not sure how far you are from them....

This is the reason it is recommended that we use a heating pad with out the auto shut off - you can order one here @ http://www.henryspets.com/

With a possible spinal injury you need to keep this baby on heat and restrict his movements. You really needs a vet or an experienced rehabber for guidance in this.

If you can get to wal-mart you can get a 24 hour timer - that way it will reset the pad for you. Chearper than the one listed earlier. The timer is made by Brinks - you will find in the home living area. I have listed it in other posts - the P/N.If you can run your hand down his back (with out getting bit) see if you feel any obvious lumps - this would indicate a spinal injury.if there is none - he may have some swelling restricting his ability to move. Heat, rest 7 quiet....and push fluids.
