I want to make sure I get Puck's cage disinfected but I am not sure how. I usually just wipe everything down with 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water, but that won't kill all of the germs. I can't take his cage outside or put it in a tub because it is not built that way. I tried to get a good picture but it didn't work too well. It is 7' x 7' x 4' and made with wood and chicken wire. I was going to try Bleach highly diluted with water and let it dry and evaporate before putting him back in there.

Simple green is the cleaner that I use. It's safe and pretty effective. Bleach will kill more, but simple green does the trick for most things.

If you have a health food store nearby, get a bottle of grapefruit seed extract (called GSE). It kills almost everything and is completely non-toxic (I know, crazy, huh? - you could drink what you use to disinfect the cage with no problem except that it is the most bitter stuff in the worls). You can spray GSE on and just let it dry - no rinsing, no harm, no foul.
I put a couple drops in the birdbaths in the summer to keep the water fresh, and add it to the hummingbird nectar for the same reason...

Shoot, I just finished cleaning his cage with diluted bleach. Well now I know for next time. I am letting it air out and evaporate and I will put him back in. He is out with me now and he is getting into trouble as usual so that must be a good sign! :rotfl Grapefruit seed oil probably would not have burned my open scratches from a certain furry someone not wanting to take their medication!!!
