Anyone got any ideas. She is FAR too pushy and is doing terrible damage to our vehicles. She got my fuel lines and she got my boyfriends electrical system. All told probably nearly a grand in damage. She is constantly under our vehicles (wheel wells up under the hood etc). Nothing deters her.
Funny thing is I barely handled those babies. I wanted them to be released and wild. She has always been very bossy. Not nasty, but bold and unafraid.
I was thinking of trapping her in a have a heart and releasing her someplace out in the forest. I love her to pieces but I can't afford this kind of damage on a regular basis and frankly my friends and family won't tolerate it at all.

Oh gosh can I relate!!:D
Trapping her and releasing elsewhere may be the only way. Just don't make it anywhere near Jacksonville :poke

I'd definitely try and find her a place free of cars. :) Maybe another member has some nice property somewhere or maybe try a local rehabber. (?) The lady I foster for has tons of property out in the country where she does releases. I wish you luck in relocating her. I think it is a safe idea because who knows what else she may get into.

Oh, Tickle's Mom, I felt so guilty laughing at your comment but couldn't help it. :jump
Let's hope scoobysnack can find someone nearby with lots of woods.

Does not appear you have a choice, besides all the damage she's doing she could very well be killed if she decides to nest in a cars engine or if someone else gets close to her. A havaheart is a decent idea if you can get one for her size and bait it well enough to entice her.
I would definitely find some deep woods to release her. If you can't find someone that has the property needed to release her on maybe you can take a hike into a State park. Undetected carrying a squirrel in of course, could be done in a back pack, picnic basket, large purse, whatever trap fits in. State parks have plenty of nut bearing trees, a water source, and protected wildlife. Not to forget to mention she will have plenty of company.
Just an idea... :dono

She's very friendly I could probably grab her without a trap. I live on acreage with lots around me. TONS! Fact is she chooses to stay near my house and scavenge for nesting supplies under our hoods! I'll miss her. She comes to my door every morning. I just can't afford to constantly do car repairs.
I have access to lots and lots and lots of state park. The Goethe national forest is about 10 miles from here and it's endless. I hate this but I just don't feel like I have a choice. If she gets my neighbor's (even though they aren't close close) stuff she may well find herself being hunted. That would be far worse than her having to learn to live in the deep woods!

Is there any way to let someone else soft release her, or can you do a soft release further from your house? Just dumping her in unknown territory is pretty traumatizing...

Your right, my bad. :rock1
My thoughts was on getting her away from cars before she got hurt in one or by some irate owner. :sorry

She's been released for months now. She's living wild. She's just coming back and harassing us! LOL

From what I understand these guys can find their way back for a very long distance. I can put a cage down the block (though she's been wild for half a year i think re caging her will totally freak her out) but it won't do any good she'll just come "home".
How do you soft release a squirrel who's already been living wild for over half a year?

I believe that Crittermom means cage her where she can hear and look at the new area in a safe surroundings and still have food given to her, rather than just putting her someplace where she is totally unfamiliar. If there is another member near you, they may be willing to take her for a few days if they have a outdoor release cage, and hang up a nest box for her. You said that she comes everyday for food, so hopefully you can also find somebody that does supplemental feedings for their released squirrels. Hey, she can come up here....:dono :tilt

No no ..she comes up for an occasional nut. I have NOT been feeding her. She is totally wild. Very bossy. Chases others away. This is a tough girl!
She and her sister have been on their own since July.

It's okay - really, I understand :devil I'm lucky in that my neighbor buys my parts for me with his discount and then will replace them for a six pack of beer that is not available in Florida :poke

It's either bring Scooby's girl here or go rescue a chipmunk and have her eat the wiring...let me toss a coin.
Wait I can't rescue a chipmunk....Magenta's Babies are in my garage....loose. Which means that my car is outside...not a great location for a chipmunk from the south....:shakehead

I wonder what would happen if you kept a basket filled with little pieces of fleece and maybe some of that fiberfill stuff they use in quilts where she could get it and it wouldn't get wet? I wonder if some misdirection would work?

Yeah I thought of that too Crittermom. Supply her with more better material. I just know she is CONSTANTLY under the cars. I've seen her coming out from under them for months. I was hoping she wasn't in there doing damage. My fuel lines and Kenny's electrical harness say different.
Now I haven't finger printed to see if it's her, but she is definitely a squirrel of interest in this case!
I did suggest we quickly build a garage. That seems unrealistic at the moment though.
She really is self sufficient. I decided when I released them that i would not supplement their diet for very long. I think I put goodies in the squaviary for about 3 weeks after I opened the door then stopped. The acorns were super plentiful and the magnolias were going to seed. It was early fall here in FL and food was everywhere. Her sister disappeared totally, she always was the shy one. This one stuck around.
